Hello,

I've written a HUD for Linux. Atm it's basic with only the VPIP/PFR/hands showing, but I plan to add more stats as I need them.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/pt3hud4lin/

The source is open so I'm accepting patches. To get it working first you need PokerTracker3 as per:

http://www.liquidpoker.net/poker-forum/710030/PokerTracker3_with_Linux.html

Then you need to have installed wxPython (wxWidgets for Python) and psycopg2.

Turn off the PokerStars memory grabber otherwise it will lag
Click Begin Auto Import in PT3, then Stop Hud.

Change the hhpath in hudgui.py and database settings in db.py and run with:

python hudgui.py

If you need further help email me at genjix (at) gmail dott com. For my efforts you should either help the project in some way (write a nice tutorial, make me a site or contribute code) or send a small donation on PokerStars of ~$20 (genjix on PS).

The only way to get Windows programs to work in Linux is thru WINE. PT3 Hud doesn't render correctly thru WINE

Well it works in virtualbox emulating Windows in a window. But that's just annoying.

When I want to use the PT3 HUD I usually have to devote one of my desktops to windows which I full screen. I can use Linux apps too together with windows apps but I don't like how it doesn't use my desktops native window management.

yeah but how are you supposed to have a smug sense of superiority over your fellow man if you use the same operating system as everyone else?

as a desktop linux just wont ever be accepted by the majority, its way too much work and zero fun unless you're a programmer or a guy with a lot of spare time on his hands. updates are a bitch even if you do get things to work
bill gates donating most his billions back to society also helped kill the whole "omg windows will rule the world bill gates is satan" anti windows crusade

Why can't people have different choices to you? It's not about smugness, but variety. Not everyone likes the same type of desktop.

Linux + the Free Software movement is directly responsible for the internet. Wikipedia too. Linux is a rockstar in server and mobile space (Android IS Linux) because of it's security and performance. Nothing stopping it from making inroads into the desktop like Firefox did.

Many of the 'new' technologies that appear are derived in some form from free software- it's a driver of industry. Most commercial software uses Linux libraries in their development (Sony PlayStation games, Nokia phones, Google OS, Safari).

Linux is comparatively young (started in 1991, and only really started it's real growth in 1995). For a technical user, it's a far superior desktop hands down because of how flexible and tailored you can make it to your workflow.

And this is software written by a community of people for free. Don't you find that incredible? People sharing and co-operating stuff, building this ecosystem.

Wikipedia quotes:

"Linux is a leading server operating system, and runs the 10 fastest supercomputers in the world."

"The popularity of Linux on standard desktop computers (and laptops) has been increasing over the years."

"Linux distributions are also commonly used as operating systems for supercomputers: since November 2010[update], out of the top 500 systems, 459 (91.8%) run a Linux distribution."

"For years Linux has been the platform of choice in the film industry. The first major film produced on Linux servers was 1997's Titanic. Since then major studios including Dreamworks Animation, Pixar, Weta Digital, and Industrial Light & Magic have migrated to Linux."

If you don't find that convincing for the superiority of Linux, then I'm not sure what will...

windows is clearly superior for the average user's needs but linux is useful for other applications
