This Athene-guy who was trolling 2p2 a while ago, says he will play 1 million hands in December, and if he do, he thinks stars will sponsor him. Bet a dollar he will go insane half-way....

Didnt this guy make lvl 80 paladin in a day or something in warcraft?

How many hands/hr can someone do 24tabling? He'd need like 32k/day.

Now I really am a busto. Thanks FTP.Last edit: 09/11/2009 14:01

I will start every day playing 24 tables 9max 100NL as i beat it lately for a good profit to build a roll then switch to 24 tabling 6max 25NL when i'm less focussed and even if i'd lose some i'd still be break even.

sounds like a plan

I think if they are all fast you can do like 1600 per hour? Also did he really do a lvl 80 in one day? that's pretty wicked.

wow this guy is sick if he makes it

btw. i guess our joeingram1 (chicagojoey) wrote at 2+2 that he will try 1,25mil in 1 month if someone does 1mil/1mo
can anyone confirm?

i cheer for him, hes doing a good job
and was kinda suprised when he showed his 108k roll ;o
he like literally never played higher than 100nl ...

Im pretty sure he did it, and i think he was first lvl 80 ever. But he had a bunch of people help him powerlevel.

Spitfiree   Bulgaria. Nov 09 2009 14:24. Posts 9634

Yes the guy made a level 80 in WoW in actually less than 24hrs played it was 18hrs if i remember right. The normal amount of time an avarage dude would reach it was about ~13days played.

What i know is - this guy will surely try his best to succeed in the challenge. He looks like the kind of guy that sets a goal and does everything to accomplish it.However .. 1mil hands in 1 month this sounds impossible.Even if he does it i m sure there ll be some real health consequences.Maybe it seems something normal to sit in front of a computer for a month but this challenge demands a lot of things: he cant take tilt breaks, he ll basically have no time for anything else than sleeping like 6-8 hours a day and playing other 16-18hrs.

Can someone calculate how many hands/hr must he play in order to succeed in 31 days 24 tabling 16 hours

Around 87 h / hour average per table if he plays 24 tables 16 hours per day for 31 days.

lol, he actually levelled a friend from 70-80 in about a day and didnt level himself

That was using an exploit and not due to excessive play or anything and doesnt help him in this situation whatsoever.

Basically in instances/dungeons in WoW due to the game mechanics whenever you attack a creature you are considered to have 'tagged' that mob, if someone is to kill that mob after you've tagged it, you still get credit for the kill (loot/experience). You get more experience the more damage you do to the mob.

So, typically a group setup will be:

1. tank - able to take lots of damage (the guy levelling to 80)
2. dps - able to kill packs of mobs quickly
3. dps
4. dps
5. healer (athene)

What they did was they would kick the tank from the group (WoW mechanics give you 1 minute to return to the party or else you're teleported out of the dungeon) then the tank would tag all of the mobs and then they would reinvite him to the party so he doesnt get kicked from the instance/dungeon. By tagging all the mobs he got full credit / experience for all of the kills and as a result managed to level extremely quickly.

Note that athene didnt actually level to 80 himself, it was his paladin tank friend who levelled. Also, due to the mechanics of the game, as his friend levelled higher and higher, he did more damage as that particular tank spec is an AoE tank which is great for taking on wave after wave of mobs. This means he got more experience %wise as he levelled but also less at the same time b/c of the lowering level of the mobs in comparison to his current level.

Its just hilarious that athene was still something like level 71 when his friend was level 80 then started claiming world first to 80 when in fact it was his friend who actually hit 80.

1 000 000 / 31 days / 16 hours = ~2016 hands per hour

2016 hands per hour / 24 tables = ~84 hands per hour per table

If better is possible, good is not enough!

Its obv just to create a buzz around him and make him attractive for pokerstars to recruit or w/e. Even if he fails, he's not betting on it (wisely) but just wants the attention of the poker community and pokerstars.

I don't think he will do it even if he could since he is Athene and that group makes a habit out of making stupid announcements that are just bullshit. But if anyone could do it it is definitely an MMO player like an old school Everquest player. Playing 16 hours a day for a month is a light month for those folks. The kind of people where everyone in their guild had each other's phone numbers so they could be on call 24/7 in case a boss spawned that they needed to form a raid for to kill (or something like that, I never played Everquest but supposedly there were fights over "tagging" a boss). The only problem is that MMO games are so slow that you can watch t.v. while you play them and 24 tabling NL100 is incredibly mentally fatigueing.

Just for fun here's a pic of arguably the best WoW player of all time grinding station for the last WoW expansion

Agreed. The last gimmick was to draw attention to UIGEA, supposedly. But i really think he jerked off when he exposed the troll. Imo it was bad humor, bad taste, didn't live up to it s goal, nothing changed. He trolls for the sake of good and is labeled as an "evil genius" or whatever. it's estimated around 30-40k rakeback in forms of: milestone bonuses, instant cash bonuses, and simply converting fpp's into cash via concierge or playing sats.

lol this + him 24 tabling and gonna b super tired at the end of the day.. i guess he cant go broke cuz he has 1K buyins, but if he does attempt this its gonna b ez pickins

Its hard to make a easy buck legally, its impossible to make a easy buck morally.

From a PvE viewpoint, which is what WoW got most of its props from, Kungen is easily the best. All that stuff like leading raids and being the guildmaster to the greatest guild in WoW history is part of the game. I think WoW has typically received more respect for its PvE gameplay than PvP gameplay.

this guy isn't a joke, he seems like a super motivated guy IRL. he has mass (if nerdy) accomplishments in WoW (including being a highly rated pvp'r), while he runs his youtube videos (promoting his character Athene, and other semi-related video series), and now has made significant success with poker in a relatively small timespan.

Furious (Dean) is one of Athene's friends and he's the brother of the long haired guy Abraham (Reese) - who does a lot of the camera work, the video editing and all the technical stuff pretty much. Furious never really played competitive WoW, it was for show in the videos but he was actually more of an FPS player, played CS and COD4. He was never Athene's arena partner in WoW.
Basically part of the premise of the show when they started is that Athene wanted to make fun of his arena partner, so in their first clip they had Furious sitting there shirtless acting like a gimp and Athene told everyone he was Navarium (Athene's arena partner).
They actually explain how the show started in this clip if you're interested:

Well he's 24 tabling 6max and at the same time he's answering questions from the forums and from the stream chat, singing songs, talking to his friends and family etc. It's really tough to make profit playing under those conditions....
Hand wise though he's way ahead of pace actually, I can see him getting a million hands a few days early and then lowering the number of tables to make some profit and break even.
Watch his stream for a bit when he's on, I've been listening to it in the background for hours. Sometimes he sings and just goes crazy and at other times he answers questions seriously and talks about personal stuff.

After finishing his 5th session, he has played 170k hands and is down 600$ total.

From his 2p2 post:

"As you can see i'm 20-30BI down and the main reason thats the case is cause i have been focusing on interacting with people and not on playing good poker. My main goal to start with is be nice ahead with my hands and get people involved in the record.

I'm planning to focus on making profit starting from the 10th december which will affect the entertainment value of the livestreams drasticly"

No FTP just PS. He 24 tables 100nl FR usually. He has been playing for 7 months and has made 125k so far, most of it is obviously off fpps but he's also a marginal winner. He mentioned that once he reaches SNE he plans on playing less tables and improving his game. So he's not planning to be a rakeback pro for much longer, it was just the easiest most productive way to start off.

are u sure about that because 125k seems like a lot of money just from fpps. A lot of people on this site can break even at nl100 on FR but I don't see any of them saying they made 6k a month because of it

He's playing NL25 and currently down 650$ total. He's a 100NL regular, once he finishes his 1mil hands or close to finish, if he's still down money he can easily switch to 100nl play less tables and break even with 1 good session. He doesn't seem worried about that at all.

Why? He sets a goal and does whatever he can to achieve it. That's the reason he was succesful in WOW and in many games before it, why he's having success at poker and why he'll continue to do well. The guy also had his own political party, a show on Belgian TV, made a movie and who knows what else. Well like I posted on 2p2, I've been watching Athene for a while and to me it really looks like he's trying hard to act sad/upset in this video. There's no doubt he's going to the PS HQ, there's a 12 sec vid of him on the plane as well. However seeing as the 25 winners will be announced on the 23rd I think it's very possible he actually got it and is going there to sign some papers/talk to them in person.
It really looks to me like he's trying to contain his joy, maybe I'm wrong but something just doesn't seem right heh.

So I guess we'll see soon if the "tard that tries really hard" got what he wanted, and trolled everyone in the process. Btw even with this delay, he's still probably going to finish his million hand challenge as well.

Ok so this guy is motivated and very inspiring, but if we go by PTR his win rate is like 0.35/100BB playing FR. I dont think playing 1 million hands will get him PS pro. It would help if he was killing nl100 , but thats not the case here. I wish him the best in his challenge but the PS pro, i doubt this will happen. Many online players are raping the game out there. I think many people have played less hands but deserve PS pro more than him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really use PT or any stat programs but a 0.35/100BB winrate 24 tabling would equal the same profit as 8.4/100BB 1 tabling and 2.1/100BB 4 tabling right? That's not too bad. considering the insane rakeback that he's getting and the hours he puts in, he probably makes more profit than 99% of 100NL players no?

yes but when it comes in the form of rakeback its super gay that's the idea atleast

I don't really like (almost) purely rakeback pro'ing.. all it does is minimize the amount of money that stays in poker player's hands and maximizes the pokersite's income

I don't know, I usually 4 table 6max so I can't compare but I'd think for anyone playing that many tables at 100nl (which is a pretty decent limit) breaking even would already seem like an accomplishment lol.
If .35ptbb 24 tabling is pretty bad and he has made 125k in his first 7 months playing (with rakeback and bonuses) then I guess there's many 100nlers rolling in hundreds of thousands?

Why are so many LPers hating on Chiren? He's an all around pretty nice guy and his Athene videos were quite funny. I wasn't a fan when he played WoW (wasnt really aware of him, watched most of his old stuff recently), but it's been a few months i watch his vids and I've seen some streams, there is really no reason to bash a guy you don't know =/

Oh and Rekrul .... "looks pretty gay", yeah but look at the chick, don't think Tania' in it for the money, she's been with him way before poker was ever in the picture. I could say the same if I saw a clip of you, it's not like you're Johnny Depp. He's a really nice/funny guy, with a gorgeous chick, a large following online, why are you so mad at him?

You know what? Maybe he isn't so good at poker. But he's capitalized on his "fame" off the felt and I think good things are coming his way.

Naib   Hungary. Dec 08 2009 08:52. Posts 968

Yeah he capitalized on it in a pretty gay and attention whorish way. Grats! I mean I can't deny his accomplishment, sick work ethic, etc. (and yes it's good if you can draw inspiration from this to grind more). This whole celebrity attitude however "look, so many people watch me, try to mess with me, follow me, root for me I'M FAMOUSSSSSS" - it still just feels wrong, I don't know why you people refuse to see it. And I can't believe I'm in agreement with Baal about something, that sums up how sad this whole thing is, tbh.

If anyone wonders, I also have "personal" reasons. My friend was sitting on the same table as the guy in some random donkament on FTP, and his "I'm so fucking cool chatting everyone up in here" attitude got on my nerves (he asked me to take over while he has dinner or smth). Everyone I know who acts like that IRL is a douchebag, I don't think he'd be different. Oh wait, I know, "it's just an act, an online persona!" Well...you are what you act like. If he's like that 90% of the time, then he's that. Simple enough for me.

Not like we're gonna convince each other anyway, I'm out of this topic now (shouldn't have touched it either, like all the others about Chiren)

Hf everyone with the rakeback pro idolization.

You've probably only seen a few of his vids, live streams are much more personnal, but anyways, if you can't see past the troll, theres no point arguing here

Correct me if I'm wrong, I don't really use PT or any stat programs but a 0.35/100BB winrate 24 tabling would equal the same profit as 8.4/100BB 1 tabling and 2.1/100BB 4 tabling right? That's not too bad. considering the insane rakeback that he's getting and the hours he puts in, he probably makes more profit than 99% of 100NL players no?

lol. Not really, this means he makes 0.35/100BB even when 1 tabling. Obv its good for rakeback, but if you check Pokertableratings.com (as i mentionned before) this kid didnt make 100K $ . He made almost 13K in 3 million hands. I'm not saying this is bad, but it doesnt really deserve PS pro.

bah. he's trying his best to achieve his dream to be a pokerstars pro. what he lacks in skill he's making up for a good work ethic and some 'marketing' skills.

i know some of you really really really want to be a pokerstars pro deep inside tho you wouldn't admit it... some of you even thought it will actually happen to you just like fossilman or greg raymer. but it didn't happen.

then comes this guy chiren who's showing everyone what he wants and is trying his hardest to get it... but why is everyone bashing him/wanting him to fail? some of you get pleasure out of it, i'm sure.

Athene's videos averaged over 1,000,000 views per video back in the day and his current videos still get 50,000-100,000 views. Does anyone here really think pokerstars gives a fuck that he is only a .35bb winner at nl100? Yes, he is only getting sponsored because of his "following" and not because of his poker skills and it's understandable how annoying that is especially considering how annoying a lot of his videos are. In the end pokerstars is a business and they will make the best business decisions. It's the same reason why I have to constantly hear about Jon and Kate Gosselin 24/7 or who Tiger Woods is currently sleeping with.

it got old and i drew the line once he starting to switch "off character" along with furious and become serious about his poker dreams telling people to email stars,

It's only the really hardcore WoW players who grind all day and even those guys wouldn't necessarily be good grinders in poker. It's not like Athene/Chiren is your average Joe... He's a top gamer and the kind of guy who would do good in anything he puts his mind to, same as Elky, Rekrul, Naz and all the other top players from starcraft here. Athene represents 0.01% of the WoW community, he's the exception not the norm. Most of the other WoW players are just as likely to be poker fish as anyone else.

Seriously Athene was NOT good at WoW, his teams were shit and got stomped on many occasions, comparing him to top starcraft players is beyond ridiculous, especially seeing that SC is actually a skill based game where WoW is a rock-paper-scissor-fotm shitfest.

how do you know he grinded 2nl, have you played with him during that time? i recall seeing him 24 tabling very early this year, like feb coz i was playing him everyday back then. seems too fast to move up to 100nl from 2nl in about two months 24 tabling. look at his ptr, he played 100nl since last year i think, so he tells everyone he started january with just 5bucks. ptr tracked hands since sept 08 with only but 100nl up hands. does not compute.

i just say he was prob staked if he didnt really deposit 4kusd immediately to 24 table 100nl. didnt say i knew it for a fact.

Well what Whamm is saying is he has already been tracked at 100nl for a year pretty much so he couldn't have grinded all the way from 2NL in less than a year. A valid point. However, what we do know from PTR is that he has played over 2.5mil hands@ 100nl, making around 13k profit. Add to that, being a supernova and playing 2.5mil hands with cash bonuses and milestones it's pretty clear that he has made over 100k. he shows it in his video as well. So we know that he's not lying about that.
As for grinding from 2NL with 5$, I searched around a bit and I've found hands of him playing 2NL-25NL. Those hands date back to late april 2008 (NL2) and mid may (NL 25). So he did infact grind his way up, although he started earlier than he claims.

Not about the 100k and grinding it up but he did seem to embellish the amount of time he has been playing poker. Still a year and a half to achieve that is very respectable as well.

Except nobody will watch your stream and nobody will care so you will never get pro. Being a pro is pretty much entirely about marketing. You make pretty poor business decisions if you have soemone that plays poker for your website and has thousands of people that watch him play and promote the website and you think he should be behind a desk instead of playing.

if u dont think supernova elite in first year is a big achievement mayb you should check some of the other players who got it this year from nl100.... lots of them are actually LOSING players, so to make it off the bat and breakeven is fairly decent imo.

Chiren's 0,5bb/100 is pretty good considering he always 24tables, and including RB/bonuses he makes more than some 2-3bb/100 winners at nl100 who dont play much

Yea he said that when he talked to Scotty (PS representative) he told him that he was aware of the challenge and even tuned it to the stream a few times but he said it's not the best way to promote PS cause it doesn't really promote responsible gaming. So Athene has decided to stop the challenge since it's actually hurting his chances to become PS pro.
He also said that if he doesn't win PS pro on the 23rd he's planning to reach SNE by that time so he's going to party anyways lol.
