Wow, that's pretty good news. Would also be pretty sick if he'd get the UIGEA completely undone untill 2010 so it's legal to play again untill this act takes that part over so people don't have to wait for 2010 to be sure it's legal and have less hassle getting money online.

the reason for this article is because 2 additional congressmen signed onto this bringing the total now to 34 cosponsors - I wouldn't recommend getting all excited about til until it reaches at the very least 175-200 co-sponsors

Here is the official title of the bill:
To amend title 31, United States Code, to provide for the licensing of Internet gambling activities by the Secretary of the Treasury, to provide for consumer protections on the Internet, to enforce the tax code, and for other purposes.

here is the short title of the bill that everyone knows:
Internet Gambling Regulation, Consumer Protection, and Enforcement Act

so much more to say but no real time right now

just so you know what exactly everyone is talking about, I am going to post the important gist of the bill in parts

`Sec. 5381. Congressional findings

`The Congress finds the following:

`(1) Since the development of the Internet, millions of people have chosen to gamble online, and today Internet gambling is offered by operators located in many different countries under a variety of licensing and regulatory regimes.

`(2) Despite the increasing use of the Internet for gambling by persons in the United States, there is no Federal or State regulatory regime in place to protect United States citizens who choose to engage in this interstate activity, or to oversee operators to establish and enforce standards of integrity and fairness.

`(3) In the United States, gambling activities, equipment, and operations have been subject to various forms of Federal and State control, regulation, and enforcement, with some form of gambling being permitted in nearly every State and by many Indian tribes.

`(4) Internet gambling in the United States should be controlled by a strict Federal licensing and regulatory framework to protect underage and otherwise vulnerable individuals, to ensure the games are fair, to address the concerns of law enforcement, and to enforce any limitations on the activity established by the States and Indian tribes.

`(5) An effective Federal licensing system would ensure that licenses are issued only to Internet gambling operators which meet strict criteria to protect consumers, and which--

`(A) are in good financial and legal standing, and of good character, honesty, and integrity;

`(B) utilize appropriate technology to determine the age and location of users;

`(C) adopt and implement systems to protect minors and problem gamblers;

`(D) adopt and implement systems to enforce any applicable Federal, State, and Indian tribe limitations on Internet gambling; and

`(E) have in place risk-based methods to identify and combat money laundering and fraud relating to Internet gambling, and to protect the privacy and security of users.

`(6) There is a need to extend the regulatory provisions of this Act to all persons, locations, equipment, practices, and associations related to Internet gambling, with each State and Indian tribe having the ability to limit Internet gambling operators from offering Internet gambling to persons located within its territory by opting out of the provisions of this Act.

`Sec. 5383. Establishment and administration of licensing program

`(a) Treasury Responsibilities- The Secretary shall have responsibility for the following activities:

`(1) Exercising full regulatory jurisdiction over--

`(A) the operation of Internet gambling facilities by licensees; and

`(B) the licensure of all applicants.

`(2) Prescribing such regulations as may be necessary to administer and enforce the requirements of this subchapter.

`(3) Employing enforcement agents with sufficient training and experience to administer the requirements of this subchapter and the regulations prescribed under this subchapter.

`(4) Enforcing the requirements of this subchapter through all appropriate means provided under this subchapter and other provisions of law.

believe me I understand the starvation for an influx of fish too
I will just say if/once this regulation passes going back will be very difficult and near impossible and if we are to have any chance to legalize online poker without taxation it is now before this bill get's passed
Also I wonder who the taxation that will be posed onto these online poker sites get's handed off to hmm?

You guys just have to understand, Congressmen, just like lawyers, are servants to the people, they are there to represent your voice, not the other way around.
I will post this link again as I think is important to read on this subject as it's a rare honest viewpoint from a Congressman

http://www.gambling911.com/gambling-n...alization-online-gambling-032009.html

A quote in the article and my underlying fundamental point:
But all things being equal that shouldn't stop us from continuing in moving in the direction of saying, "Yes, we ought to be allowed to have online gambling and run our affairs as we see fit."

It helps if you can get a lot of co-sponsors because you can force a vote on the floor if you have enough, regardless of whether or not the Speaker of the House would allow it. Also gets you more publicity if you have a lot of co-sponsors.

Well i understand that co-sponsors are really good i were only saying that you dont need X amount for a bill to pass.

well Baal I believe if you have like 290-300 cosponsors of a bill that would allow it to be passed to be voted on even if it was to get suspended through the processing in committees
but in this instance I would not really worry about the bill being suspended or denied tho, I think really the chances of that are very small as government loves to open the gates to new regulation/taxation and this will definitely make it to the floor
the only question imo is what will the vote be

and while I agree with you chris and am not a big fan of Barney, I have to admit to you that "champion our cause" to me is an irking statement and laughable as I just see us with a hood over our head and completely bamboozled
i.e. in reading this article that 4Kingell posted...
"A petition will also be delivered to President Obama asking for his support to exempt poker from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, and for the licensing and regulation of online poker."
man how they have nailed us good
I can just feel Obama's inside laughter as he gives us our wish
they freeze our right and we become like starving men just begging for mercy, even if it's in the form of chains
pleeeeease sign this petition to regulate us oh grand one, pleeeease
how the times have changed..
what a joke

if you just cut out everything in that quote after the word "and" I'd be a happy camper
"A petition will also be delivered to President Obama asking for his support to exempt poker from the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act"
period
championing our cause would be someone that was politely saying GTFO you don't belong here
but it seems I live in the mouth of madness as that is far from the words of the geniuses at the PPA
so I say fuck it bring it on
let's reap what we sow Americans

this has been sent to Stars support

Hello,

As you know I am a pretty regular player at PokerStars and I was wondering about this bill H.R. 2267 sponsored by Congressman Barney Frank that the PPA and everyone is supporting.
From my understanding, if this bill passes, online poker will become once again openly "legal" and you will become taxed and regulated by our government. I worry and wonder about this. If you PokerStars end up paying taxes to continue your service to us, how will this effect your customers such as me? Without a doubt the new fee's that will have to be paid to the government will not be a minor amount and I am sure everyone will feel this effect in some way shape or form. Any light you could share on this I greatly appreciate.
Thank you for your time.

Here is the reply

Hello,

I hope this email finds you well. Your email was forwarded to me for
review and consideration.

We are monitoring the situation closely and are in daily conversations
with all of our processors and legal team. While at this time we do not
envisage further changes with our providers, it is unfortunately
impossible to be certain.

Please note that PokerStars is always trying to provide the best service
to our players and I am sure, that if this new bill/law passes, we will
try our best to ensure that our players do not get affected by it.

At this point, we do not know if that regulation will be accepted or not,
so I think there is no need to worry about it to much for the time being.
We will deal with it if the day comes.

As always we are here at your service, so please do not hesitate to
contact us if we can be of any further assistance.

Regards,

From the article:

(US).- US Congressman Barney Frank's bill to legalize online gambling is gaining rapid support, with another four congress representatives signing up as co-sponsors last week.

Is it 2 or 4?

btw Jared Polis signed on. He's from CO and I met him a few times during the campaign, very nice guy. I didn't live in his district (just over the line so I have a different congressman) but I woulda voted for him if I could. Glad to see he's in on this. Anyone have a list of the sponsors/co-sponsors?
