I would think it standard to get someone's personal information; name, address, phone number and probably even a social number in the event that person turns out to be scamming.

I am being disagreed with on this and i know a lot of people don't get this info but I think it could solve a lot of headaches for certain people.

Phone number, address seems alrights and I mean if you don't trust them, don't stake them?

I mean i did a transfer with umm verbloten who doesn't seem to post anymore but he called me before completing a site transfer for me which I thought was a good precaution.

Social security number seems a bit extreme, but I don't even have a great understanding of it...

muckv - i have an iq of 180 and i want someone to teach me how to take a shit IN the toilet.

it makes no sense/difference imo. if somebody is devious enough to scam you, he's devious enough to give you false information. i don't think it's an unreasonable request if, somehow, it gives you recourse in the case that you do get scammed, but since it doesn't actually provide that recourse, then who cares? just swap or stake people you know and trust and nobody else.

if you get his information always confirm it
get references etc so if he vanishes at least you'll have something to go off of
maybe a copy of a valid ID etc

There are ways people can protect themselves, I don't see why they don't do it.

If i had someone's personal information it would certainly give me some recourse, and also discourage unplanned scamming.

Agreed with knowing people but when the only avenue you communicate through, involving people playing online poker, is the internet; you often build relatively anonymous connections over aim/msn

some less scrupulous donors plant bombs in the stakee's brainstem to ensure payment

i sure hope he doesn't get angry that i gave him away

I guess it will be freezing in hell the day i lend someone 2k$ or more only knowing his internet pseudo. At least he knows that you know his id and is not tempted to vanish with your money but like Myth pointed out it doesn't matter if the guy planned to scam you, but it's still a security...

Odds are exactly 50%, either happens or it doesnt

look for references and try to evaluate if he's trustworthy. If he has facebook you can add some of his contacts

people should be really cautious with this.

just stake people you know very well, and if it's someone that you only have spoken to on aim/msn, just do it with a guy that you have had a loong contact with during several years and speak to regulary.

meh, what are you gonna do if it's a scam and you have their adress? go to their house and beat the shit out of them?

as long as you don't write some kind of contract, you don't have any legal rights whatso ever, and therfor knowing the name and so on really doesnt change anything.

I would never stake a stranger if I wasn't willing to face the possibility of never seeing the money again.

Either stake friends only or look at staking as doing someone a favour and be pleasantly surprised when/if you get the money back. Otherwise it's just too much worry...

Have an opinion about what I said? please say it

traxamillion   United States. Sep 26 2008 15:28. Posts 10468

haha fuck you guys

really i guess i'd just get pictures of family/children and locations of work / school.

then I'd have a fake id made with someone elses picture and the guys name. That person would then go into all of his banks and clear him out / max out credit.

5k hit with his own money

profit
