50c/1d PLO 100bb effective stacks

Villain is a overly loose and bad player seemingly although I haven't been playing with him too much yet and we have no relevant history.

I have Kh9h9d3c in the SB (6 handed), UTG limps, Villain limps in the CO, I limp in and the BB checks

Flop: Tc9c7d
pot: $4

I pot flop and BB calls along with Villain

Turn: 4s
pot: $15

I bet $12, BB folds, and Villain raises to $52

All comments appreciated as I am still trying to learn something new about this game everyday. Thanks guys.

Without a good read on opponent (is he capable of waiting until turn to shove a big draw instead of just raising flop) I fold this pretty quickly. This is the standard line for a naked J8 with no redraws. Even though it is the current nuts it can be a pretty big dog vs hands like KQJxcc or set+flush draw on the flop but its equity improves a lot on the turn if a blank comes. He might also decide to play 86 this way. This hand started as a limped pot, and you look pretty strong leading into 2 players out of position so very little reason to do anything crazy here.

If you later realize he's the type to overplay 77 or two pair on this kind of board just look to look to get into more pots against him with a wider range later on.

This is always a better hand. He would have raised a big draw on the flop and any made hand that you beat is not doing this on the turn.

yeah this was kind of a dumb thread i guess

my first thought was that the nuts (no re draw) would just auto raise the flop but i guess flatting and potting good turns is better. i put him on some kind of big draw that might've turned 2pr so i stuck it in. he did indeed have the naked J8. i don't remember his other 2 cards but they were irrelevant

probably gets more interesting if i have a decent draw along with my set

if i did have a hand like 99Axcc/99Kxcc or whatever, just calling turn and open shoving river when i get there and otherwise c/f'ing is good?

I'm not sure it gets any more interesting. His range is the key to this hand and i think his holdings are fairly obvious (J8/maybe 68). So basically your decision is simple math.

@ TimDawg

Yea, I think without more specific reads that would be a reasonable line with a set + fd on the turn. You showed strength throughout the hand and I believe this will lead villain to define his range more when he raises your turn bet.

There is no such thing as certainty in life, only opportunity.
