<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/user_pictures/690c9.EPTYDEAVU.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">The European Poker Tour stop in Deauville had a very interesting final table with a few big names, and in the end it was Jake “neverbluff67” Cody who took home the first prize. He beat 767 other players at the Casino Barrière, who brought €3,686,400 with them for the prizepool.
This EPT Deauville broke a few records. The 768 players that enrolled made the biggest field for the EPT Deauville yet, and with 2 former world champions and 13 former EPT champions it was one of the toughest EPT fields this season.
Another record was broken by Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano. He broke his own record of EPT cashes, earning his 14th and third this season. This time he was knocked out 72nd for €10,900. At the final table, two big names tried to set their own record. Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier tried to be the first player to win two EPT events. Unfortunately he was knocked out in ninth place, just one place before the official final table. After he got knocked out, fellow PokerStars Pro Peter Eastgate got eliminated as well in his second final table.
The Canadian Mike “Timex” McDonald was also in contention of winning his second EPT event, after he won the EPT Dortmund in season 4. He did better than ElkY, yet failed to reach his goal as he got knocked out in 3rd place. Not an experienced or well-known live pro took home the victory, but it was the 21-year-old online pro and EPT-debutant Jake “neverbluff67” Cody who pocketed the €847,000 first prize!
Cody commented after tournament: “This is so overwhelming. It's the sort of stuff I dreamed about with my mates just a few weeks back. I feel like I should be asleep as I can't believe this is happening.”
