There are no official numbers about casualties, but Haiti's government estimates that around 140,000 people perished due to the disaster. Many buildings have been completely destroyed, so there are thousands of homeless families in need. There is an estimation that as many as 3,000,000 people have been affected by the earthquake.
The poker community is known for standing up and helping people in difficult times, and once again it unified forces to show its support. PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker created means for you to make a donation to the cause, and they will match every cent of your donation. All donations made through PokerStars will be transferred to the Red Cross. Donations made through Full Tilt Poker will be donated to the Red Cross, Doctors Without Borders and UNICEF..
To donate through PokerStars, you can make a transfer to 'Haiti Fund' using the 'Transfer funds...' tool under the Requests menu of the main PokerStars lobby. There is also the option to enter in one of the 'dummy' tournaments which are located under the 'Tourney' > 'Special' tab. Keep in mind that these are not real tournaments, they are just a mean for you to donate and show your support.
To donate through Full Tilt Poker, you can play some of the special "Aid for Haiti" tournaments, which its tournament fees will go to the relief efforts funds. You can also donate through "No Play" tournaments, which work just like the 'dummy' tournaments of PokerStars. You can check a schedule of these tournaments in this page.
The other option is to make a transfer to the account 'Aid for Haiti', starting at $5. Just go to the cashier in the FTP lobby and click on the 'Transfer' button.
