As we start a new calendar year, poker players hope the next 12 months will be as entertaining as the last few ones. The later part of 2009 saw high stakes games get more exciting than ever, so all we can hope as spectators is that high stakes poker continue strong.
Many interesting things happened in nosebleed games in 2009. Maybe you don't remember, but we had a lot of cool threads about Phil Ivey, FullFlush, xblind, Durrr vs Antonius and last but not least, the mysterious Isildur1! Battles involving these players and many others have moved a lot of money around, so it's time to put the numbers together and see who came out as the big winners of 2009.

9.Cole South $2.128.686,40 1109 /80028
10.Mark Vos $2.101.160,80 779 /13200 After closing 2008's list in tenth place, Patrik Antonius had an awesome year and some sick duels against Durrrr and Isildur1. These matches helped him to finish the year as the biggest winner in online games, making close to nine million dollars in 185,440 hands!
Second place belongs to Phil Ivey, who topped the last list with 95,248 hands and a $7,54 million profit. This year he made a little less than that, but over the last two years he is THE BIGGEST winner in nosebleed games and no one gets anywhere close to his results.
Third on the list is Brian Hastings. His jump to the top was thanks to Isildur1, who lost over $4,200,000 to him, giving Brian the majority of his profit for the year in a single day. trex313 proved once again to be one of the very best high stakes players, as he managed to close the year among the big winners for the second consecutive time.
Brian Townsend and Cole South complete the "Cardrunners trio" that cleared Isildur1, and all three of them made it to the top 10. Rafi "howisitfeellike" Amit earned $2.235.756 in 2009, most of it thanks to his speciality - Omaha. The list is closed by Mark Vos, who won a little over $2mln during the last year.
As for biggest losers in 2009 ( name/ profit/ sessions player/ hands played): 1.Gus Hansen $-5.575.624,38 5775 / 256418
2.durrrr $-4.345.852,45 3666 / 281660
3.LarsLuzak $-4.094.276,11 2027 / 120312
4.David Benyamine $-2.242.501,28 2258 / 99377
5.Isildur1 $-2.216.177,41 991 / 166490
6.David Oppenheim $-1.370.882,75 1536 / 29320
7.rospodin $-1.326.359,70 80 /10668
8.Slick Puppy $-1.270.776,00 411 /14823
9.papa ninja $-1.245.031,65 57 / 4766
10.KObyTAPOUT $-1.243.985,45 192 / 12015 The top loser of the year, Gus Hansen, seems to be a constant name among the players who end the year in the red, as he was also one of the top10 losers of 2008. This time Gus managed to lose a lot more and finished the year in the infamous first place with $-5.575.624,38.
Second spot, for everyone's surprise, belongs to Tom “durrrr” Dwan, who lost over 4 million dollars. Durrrr started the year losing almost 4 million between January and February, but he grinded back and managed to stay up over a million at some point in the year. However, last part of the year was a complete disaster for him, as Isildur1 took huge load of money from him.
LarsLuzak also didn't have a good year, and stands in third place, with a $-4.094.276,11 loss.
The list of top ten losers isn't really that interesting for the eventual spectator, so we will end our review with Isildur1, whose identity wasn't figured out yet. Even though he crushed Durrrr for around 5 million dollars, he had some tough beats against Phil Ivey, Antonius and Brian Hastings, finishing the year with a 2 million loss.
