It was the 23-year-old Jan Skampa who took home the victory in this €5,250 Main Event that saw 584 entrants.
It was far from easy for the young Czech, in only his fourth EPT event. Yet he did have final-table experience, as he made the final 9 in the last EPT event, the EPT Vilamoura, where he finished fourth for €120,000 . This time it all went a little better, and after a 3 hour heads-up match against the Israeli businessman Eyal Avitan he took home the main prize: €682,000 and a seat at the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo next April.
In the final hand Skampa was holding a 2:1 chiplead and raised 450,000 from the button. Avitan moved all-in for a total of 4 million and Skampa quickly called, holding . It was tough when we were three-handed but once Stefan Mattsson [who finished third] was out, I felt confident I could win."
Also worth mentioning is an incredible performance by Team PokerStars Pro Luca Pagano. He made his record-breaking sixth EPT final table and 13th EPT cash as he finished sixth for €100,000
