While the APPT Macau (Asian Pacific Poker Tour) just started, the APT (Asian Poker Tour) Macau ended yesterday. While the names of the events could not have been picked worse than this, having the two events in the same week made sure a lot more players were interested in coming to asian city. The final table of the APT Main Event ($5300 buy-in), held at the Starworld Galaxy Hotel and Casino, had 8 players contesting for the $500,000 first prize.
The final eight looked as following: Seat 1: Casey Kastle - 456,000 chips
Seat 2: Michael Pedley - 132,000
Seat 3: Joon Hee Yeah - 160,000
Seat 4: Chong Wing Cheong - 454,000
Seat 5: Yevgeniy Timoshenko - 318,000
Seat 6: Quang Nguyen - 315,000
Seat 7: Julio Diaz - 315,000
Seat 8: Rober Karian - 419,000
In the end, Timoshenko appeared to be the most fortunate, he knocked out 5 out of 6 opponents before he got heads-up (2 being behind, twice having the opponent dominated and one coinflip, all of which he won). In the end he got heads-up with Joon Hee Yeah, the 20-year-old Russian having an insane chip lead:
Timoshenko - 2,301,000
Yeah - 257,000
On the final hand, Timoshenko raises preflop, Yeah reraises and Timoshenko moves all-in over the top with . He gets called and Yeah shows his . The flop brings out some emotions as falls down, but turn and river are both meaningless and Yeah busts out on second place, collecting $250,000, while a 20 year old Timoshenko cashes in for $500,000 .
"I'm very fortunate to have won this," said Timoshenko after the event. "I ran extremely well. The final table was a pretty tough line-up. I'm really ecstatic that I finally won a main event."
This wasn't Timoshenko's first victory, he has been a very successful player online playing as "Jovial Gent" on Pokerstars when he won a Sunday Million back in 2006 and he's had numeral cashes since.
