<img align="right" src=http://www.tlpoker.be/staff/BossMC/HSP.jpg style="margin:5px; border: 0px solid black;">After lots of doubts and disappointment, Game Show Network (GSN) has now confirmed there will be a 5th season of High Stakes Poker. In contrast to what various sources in May reported, the show will go on.
The doubts about HSP started with the planned shift by GSN towards a more youthful audience. Also it was said that they wanted more time for the World Poker Tour, which was to be broadcast by GSN after they bought the show from Travel Channel. There wouldn't be any time and space left for High Stakes Poker, so that show was to be postponed until further notice. A few days ago, there came the news that the World Poker Tour will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net, starting from Season VII. It appears that was the crucial step for HSP to start again.
High Stakes has always been the favorite pokershow by many pokerplayers. The show was revolutionary in a way that they'd show real cash games, and a lot more coverage than other programs would do, like the World Poker Tour. So instead of the classic coinflips and knockouts, the audience got to see more hand than ever, and also those hands which would be cut in most pokershows, the less interesting hands, but those are all part of poker. In a way one could say the poker showed was more true to the reality, it's not just the Rounders-moments and the streaks of suckouts that got the attention. The show got very high ratings and a large audience, tho schemed to the slightly older viewers.
The normal minimum buy-in of the show is $100.000 and the last few episodes of season 4 even had a minimum buy-in of $500.000. Blinds were $300-$600 with a $100 ante. This caused a pot of $998,800 , which is still the biggest pot in the history of High Stakes Poker.
We will have to wait a little before it actually comes back, but the good news is that it WILL be back, it's to be aired in February 2009, they will start filming the new episodes in September 2008. GSN's Director of Public Relations, Jennifer Minezaki, only had a very brief statement about the renewal of the show: "GSN has picked up the option on the fifth season of 'High Stakes Poker' and continues to enjoy poker on its air." Gabe Kaplan and AJ Benza will be back hosting it.
