<img src="http://www.liquidpoker.net/staff/Defrag/PS_VIP_CLUB.jpg" align="right" style="margin:5px; border:1px solid black;">Late last year PokerStars announced substancial changes to its rake structure, including a change from the dealt method to the weighted contributed method. With this change, tight players will collect less VPP, as opposed to loose players, who will be awarded more VPP. After hearing of the news, poker players organized a mass sit out on PokerStars, urging its colleagues to sit on as many tables as possible and sit out. PokerStars heard the players and decided to cancel the changes and invite a group of poker players to its headquarters in Isle of Man to discuss some of the raised issues. The meeting took place a few days ago and the new changes are going to be implemented on February 1st.
Micro stakes players have now two new levels, as $0.03/$0.06 and $0.08/$0.16 are going to be introduced coming Wednesday. Also, all NL and PL games at $0.10/$0.25 and below will see rake reductions. This should help players move up stakes in an easier way. Mid stakes had rake reduction as well as cap reduction. High stakes have seen a small decrease in the rake, but they are seen as competitive in the industry. Overall rake will be reduced by approximately 2% relative to 2011 rates.
Some important changes have also been made to the VIP club. SuperNova and SuperNova Elite players will have an easier time maintaining their status. All they have to do is earn the maintenance level of VPP for any 10 individual months in the year. In addition, this year alone, both SN and SNE players will keep their status for 2013 by achieving only half the required number of VPP. That means a player who became SuperNova in 2011 will by hitting 100,000 VPP will only need 50,000 VPP to keep his status for 2013.
