Sam Trickett was voted Player of the Year and thus won the most coveted award of the evening. Trickett collected over $4.5 million in live tournaments in 2011 alone, most of it in High Roller events. He won the $100K High Roller at the 2011 Aussie Millions, finished runner-up in the $250K Super High Roller at the same event and finished the year with a title in the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event. Among the nominees for that award were Pius Heinz, Jake Cody and Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, who completed the Poker Triple Crown in 2011.
In spite of not winning the Player of the Year award, Elky didn't walk away empty handed, as he was voted the Poker Personality of the Year. Ilari 'Ziigmund' Sahamies had a fantastic year in high stakes cash games and hence won the Internet Player of the Year award. As expected, Pius Heinz won the Best Tournament Performance award, as he claimed the title of the most prestigious tournament in the world, the WSOP Main Event.
Andrey Pateychuk was named Rookie of the Year after capturing World Poker Tour and European Poker Tour championships, Jesse May won the Lifetime Achievement award and WSOPE Cannes was considered the Best European Event of the Year. Finally, Russian Natalia Nikitina was voted Europe's Leading Lady and Warren lush, from Bwin Party, won the Poker Staff person of the Year award.
