Never said variance had to catch up that fast, but any team running hot can also run cold, this just happened to occur in the same game. Goin through actual gameplay saying "what if" on every foul call or miss call becomes a nightmare where people only see the patterns they want to see when it comes to team favoritism. There is a tendency to favor stars and the home team, that's it. Heat fans who have been, yes I've read forums with heat fans saying the refs r rigged against them, point to pierce drawing bad pump fake calls, rondo never being called for traveling, and KG committing a moving.screen that's uncalled 20 times a game. Celtics fans meanwhile point to Wade getting pump fake calls, LeBron and Wade traveling, and Pierce having 6 fouls called on him every game recently. In reality its just refs missing calls with no long term team favoritism trend that can be shown.

I totally agree with you here. I just draw a different conclusion than you beyond this point in terms of how refs deal with that favoritism. Watching Chris Paul travel on literally every play is my favorite thing to watch refs ignore.

I know I'm coming in late on this but I completely agree with whoever said that the concept of a "top-down" rigging system for "higher ratings" is ridiculous. I can definitely go along with a ref being influenced monetarily by an outside source / gambling problem, but to think that Stern says "make the heat win tonight" is just not right. There would be WAY TOO MANY loose ends there, and that would be risking the entire well-being of a revenue giant for what, a couple million dollars that get's split umpteen ways? Yes, referees influence basketball games way more than any other sport, THAT IS AN ARGUMENT AS TO WHY IT IS NOT RIGGED. It is the home court advantage that rigs the game, because the refs have to make so many calls which are a lot closer and more subjective than most sports and are in an extremely loud environment, which is why over the course of dozens of calls the home court advantage makes a big difference.... it's really not that hard of a concept to grasp.
I completely agree that the reffing has been an atrocious joke in the playoffs though. These guys are awful and I truly do believe that better refs can be hired but there is probably some red-taping union that's stopping that from happening...

I don't think the word "rigged" is the correct term in describing what we are talking about - it wouldn't be correct to say the outcome of the game is predetermined. I think the NBA looks at it as "how can we influence a game so that we as a league most likely benefit", which is quite a different conclusion from saying the NBA decides the winners and losers of games before they even start.
Anybody want to bet against me that Boston has 7+ more total personal fouls than Miami tonight? I'd bet $40 at 1:1 on that happening. Statistically that has only happened 1/5 games this series, so you're getting great odds...unless of course that's rigged

OKC is soooooo sick. If i had one team to pick to win it all this year, it would be them. Definitely gonna have to put some monies on them in the near future.
I should have stuck with these guys. I didn't bet on any games this year, but I jumped on the SA train while they went on that sick sick heater.

^If we don't count intentional fouls at the end of the game I would be willing to take that bet although I have no way to pay since I don't have paypal or poker etc...Will take the bet in spirit though.

Lol, didn't really think of end of game shit. Alright, booked in spirit. Lol. I expect it to be +15 personal fouls for Boston.
