A fair odds bet: Two people want to bet on opposing sides of an event with even odds. They are going to make the bet between each other without using the services of a bookmaker. Each person is willing to risk $100 to win $100. After each person pays his $100, there is a total of $200 in the pot. The person who loses receives nothing and the winner receives the full $200.

By contrast, when using a sportsbook with the odds set at −110 vs. −110 (10 to 11, 1.9090..) with vigorish factored in, each person would have to risk or lay $110 to win $100 (the sportsbook collects $220 "in the pot". The extra $10 per person is, in effect, a bookmaker's commission for taking the action. This $10 is not in play and cannot be doubled by the winning bettor; it can only be lost. A losing bettor simply loses his $110. A winning bettor wins back his original $110, plus his $100 winnings, for a total of $210. From the $220 collected, the sportsbook keeps the remaining $10 after paying out the winner.

In the above example, the bookmaker has taken a rake, or scaled commission fee, of $10 ÷ $220 = 4.55%.

The internet has increased competition to the point where there are now sites like Pinnacle that offer -103/-103 on even contests for an overround of roughly 1.5%. Exchanges such as matchbook, under certain conditions, allow you to effectively bring the overround down to zero. Therefore, when XLbet charges 8.42% overround, I LOL.

strato, you are totally missing the point here and being completely unreasonable. So you are basically offering Flash at -167 when there is a public option to bet Flash at -105. The idea of P2P betting is to cut out the middleman and get better prices for everyone.

You're correct about the odds, Flash is the favorite going into this match, just like he was in last seasons MSL where he 3-0`ed Jaedong in the finals, except this time the maps aren't totally Terran > Zerg, but still favor Terran.

Jaedong's semi final match was against Light, who he beat 3-2 (W, L, L, W, W).
I personally always bet for Jaedong against anyone, no matter what the maps are, but you have to take into consideration how solid Flash is, how he beat Jaedong easily last season, how poorly Jaedong played against Flash last season, and the maps. If Jaedong is only beating Light 3-2, when Light isn't even as good as Flash in any match up, then Flash is certainly the favorite going into this match.

p.s. If anyone brings up the WCG 2010 Korean finals games where Jaedong beat Flash last week, thinking it has some pull going into this final, you're dumb.

If you guys believe Flash -167 is anywhere close to fair odds, then there is no way you can turn down an offer to bet on Flash at -133 since I will take Jaedong to win at +133. That line represents an overround of over 10% from your proposed line of -167, more than double a typical book and even bigger than XLbet. If you refuse to bet on Flash at -133, that is basically a clear admission that you have no confidence in your own original line of -167.

generally, the vig free line would suffice but since people seem to disagree with it, the only other way to facilitate P2P betting here would be to make an open offer/accept system like an exchange.

so if you want to bet on flash, you will need to risk 133 to win 100 and I will book your bet. If you want to bet on JD, you need to risk 100 to win 104 and I will book your bet. I will need to confirm with you before it is officially booked. If anyone else wants to step in and offer a better line, please feel free to do so. My goal is not to make money off the vig here, and I would be happy to see other people step in and make offers to reduce the spreads so that the + and - sides are equal. But since there is so much disagreement about what the proper line is, we'll let the free market decide and I'm just putting the wheels in motion by offering action on both sides and encouraging people to step in with better offers.
