Even if you're a complete newb when it comes to network security and computer usage, if you have an RSA security key your account should be fine. Two factor authentication is one of the most secure ways to go. I recommend it for everything where you keep money.

Mean; but also false, Hackers can take anyone down and windows is much easier to learn how to hack as everyone has done it. Windows also leaves too many ports open, as it loads the whole registry to allow interface with normal windows programs; linux just loads the files one is using. BTW my relative who was hacked had been working as a programmer so he was not a "complete idiot".

Sure, theres possibly some sick hacker out there that could target you and im not talking about recovering a password via a weak AIM secret question or something pathetic. But IMO this just doesn't happen and is complete BS.

If you're not:
- Downloading and using keygens/cracks/pirated software (movies generally dont count, but watch for suspicious file extension)/cheating software for games(maphacks,aimbots etc)/visiting porn sites and opening .exes for titties
- Clicking links or accepting files people give you without thinking about the link or files
- Submitting your credit card details to random/unsecured sites (look for SSL)
- Submitting any sensitive details to random / unsecured websites, especially a poker email address.
- Sharing your computer with kids or other incompetent people.

If you are:
- Using a unique poker email address solely for that purpose
- Using seperate passwords for all sites that matter especially email. Good way to get a strong 24+ letter password is to pick random words out of a book.
- Extremely careful about every piece of software or file that you run, getting software from reliable sources, double checking it via virustotal.com.
- Using a good firewall & virus scanner.
- Using Noscript with your browser.
- Using RSA tokens.
- Leaving your computer locked at all times AFK
- Have the most up to date software.
- Using keyscrambling software like keyscrambler.
- Aware of exactly what it is you're protecting
- Learning MMA to protect from IRL hackers like fedor.

If you're afraid your computer is comprimised you should disconnect it immediately from the internet. You can try to remove the virus/trojan/keylogger while its disconnected but you need to be sure its gone else format to be sure, takes <2-3 hrs to get everything up and running & clear mind. If you have a second safe computer log on to it and change all passwords immediately.

I have a small number of passwords that I use on different sites; I reuse several of them so I don't have to memorize dozens of passwords, but my poker password is unique. Hopefully yours is too.

I hear your point about some sites not working in wine. Pokerstars and FullTilt both work perfectly, but I must admit I haven't tried any other site so far. And I definitely have had my share of FML issues with wine.

That's good to know at least. How about hem or pt3, are they supported / work under wine? Dont get me wrong im not trying to bash linux and i think its a shame a poker player playing multiple sites is forced to use windows and windows only, but thats just the way it is right now imo.

Keepass is good because it uses randomly generated username/passwords as well as secret question answers but if your computer crashes and you lose the list it must suck

Also its awesome they have this feature:

Timed clipboard clearing: KeePass can clear the clipboard automatically some time after you've copied one of your passwords into it.

Since most trojans/keyloggers also log copy/pastes & clipboard data

I run Linux host with a TinyXP VM dedicated purely for poker. Nothing is installed on it except for poker clients + related software. Hackers generally don't bother with computers that have security since there are so many without it. As far as poker goes though, if you have an RSA security key you should be fine. If someone gets your password or into your email they still need the key and you'll have enough time to get things sorted out.
