Pc: shooter suggestion

just got my new pc.

and im totally out of the loop concerning new games.
obv got starcraft 2 but also interested in a fps.

the last shooter i played was quake 3.

mainly looking for a fun game for quick multiplayer, single player is a bonus.

what do u guys play, suggest?

cs is one of the best pc games ever made right up there with starcraft (imo they are top 2), but it's kind of old. source is really fun, but i'd recommend bad company 2... it's what i'm playing and having a pretty good time so far.

Left 4 Dead gets so incredibly boring so fucking fast.

I played CoD:MW2 for quite some time but gets frustating quick so now I'm getting frustated at Battlefield Bad company 2.

Good shooter games and both have singleplayers(I think? dont care bout single player)

The most recent games i've played was Bioshock 2. Quite the game and very pretty. Has a fairly sweet looking multiplayer but haven't really gotten into it so I can't say for sure. Left 4 dead was fun and I spent a ton of time on it. Left 4 dead 2 was just meh but if you gonna buy this series might as well get the 2nd one as they are both pretty much the same game cept the 2nd one has more add ons.

Fall out 3 game of the year edition I really enjoyed. It's a single player rpg/fps shooter with an immense world. And all the addons give you countless hours of relaxing play.

Borderlands was kinda fun at first but gets boring pretty quickly. Although I did make it through the 2nd playthrough to see if there's any more sicko weapons to find. It's pretty fun to dick around with other players tho, kinda like WoW except with guns and about 1/10000000th the time needed.

Batman arkham asylum was a hella tight game. Not quite a "shooter" if you will but it's definitely a treat if you enjoyed batman at any point in your life. And it's short and sweet.

To really get the full experience from these games best get a decent video card. I ran a ATI radeon HD 4770 with all these games. (with the exception of the first L4D and borderlands)

of course you should def listen to these peoples and get counter-strike. one of the best fps ever created. Used to play it quite competitively back in the day.

oh and I hella enjoyed Half life 2 and all it's sequels as well. Def worth a playthrough.

Afaik mw2 is prob the best shooter around atm but theres a lot of decent ones around. I'd suggest going onto steam and browsing through the store then looking at the trailers or googling gameplay trailers.

crysis, a little old now; but it has always eaten up PCs and crysis 2 will be out in the spring of 2011.

to update my own thread:
just bought crysis 2 pretty awesome, especially the single player.

great graphics (my pc already a bit slow for "extreme graphic settings"

the ingame sound is superb and it has a hollywoodlike musical score. story kinda meh, but its a shooter so ...

multiplayer is nice, the special abilities ( u get energy that u can use to cloak, get armor or run) are confusing at first.
As of now (pc patch 1.4) there are no more cheaters i think. u also can play classic gamemode with no perks/energy.

My first modern shooter .Would be fun to get a lp match going

military sim ARMA II is quite fun, also it has a pretty nice mission/map editor

Also: Counterstrike is the only true quick fun FPS

dunno if its considered an FPS but PORTAL 2 just came out AND IT FUCKING OWNS MY WORLD RIGHT NOW.

crysis 2, graphics are pretty intense

?? what exactly is the unique about the game ? I mean the simple fact that you cant make a portal wherever you want makes the game so much easier since there are only several places to portal to and you have to use all of them every single time - anyone with IQ over 50 will be able to build a logical path to move through in about 5mins tops at the hardest levels ... there is no time rush whatsoever anywhere etc.etc. i could think of at least 10 more things which totally suck about the game - and also a total of 10hrs gameplay both single and multiplayer ... cmon srsly?

how can you think its not unique? its just totally different from anything you have ever played (except portal 1 obv) creating infinite loops, the way it fucks with your mind, shooting portals during movement and you dont know wheres up and down, left and right. Obviously the game is not that hard for a 14+ skillful player. It was meant to be enjoyable not impossible. If you want challange dl editor maps and i guarantee you the hardcore ones will take days to solve.

Huge patch for crysis 2 PC just came out. direct x 11 support and high res textures. plus an editor (that i havent tried out yet) that enables new mods and maps.

This game now looks absolutly great and u should def buy it, if just for the visual experience.

buy it (only) if u have a PC with a 64 bit OS and dx11 graphics card.

Team Fortress 2 for any quake 3/unreal player!

TF2 is now free to play. Its fun and youll get a few hours of gameplay out, but unless youre a hat fanatic youll probably lose interest

I didnt enjoy TF2 much, at least not as much as Quake Live which has consumed loads of my time recently.

It really is the last of the great FPS generation. When emphasis was on skill and speed instead of "OMGSICKGRAFIXMW2"

That said, Battlefield 3 looks siiiiiiiiiiiiiiick.

does anyone own Unreal Tournament 3?

I used to love UT2K series since it accounts for like 90% of my lifetime professional winnings during my professional gaming career.

It looks really cool, but id only want to buy it if theres an active online community.

Unreal Tournament 3 community is dead from what i did read.
Seems more people are playing UT2K4 than UT3

I only played UT3 demo but didnt like it ( Allthouh i loved UT99 and UT2004)

I remember being up at like 5am with school at 8am playing onslaught (i think it was the demo version back then)

just played Trine for an hour.

Its like Lost Vikings, 3 characters with 3 skills/attributes that you switch between to get through the level. Its actually amazing, amazing visuals and controls are good.

my country's average isp bandwidths will never let me play FPS games

$15 for New Vegas probably works out to $0.000000000000001 per hour of gameplay, great game. I just finished Crysis 2 the other night. I enjoyed that and it looks pretty but it was maybe a bit shallow.

I hate cs cause i am a totally noob.I think i have 2 options if i want to stay alive more than 5 secs:

Team Fortress 2 is the game to go imo

Portal II had a really fun storyline. I was laughing at so much of it and really enjoyed the atmosphere of the game. There were also less momentum type puzzles (iirc) compared to the 1st which was a big + for me, i hate that shit. First time i completed it i really took the time to explore everything i could then i played through again doing it really quickly. Theres also a lot of custom maps that people don't check out which are really worthwhile in like a lot of the cases e.g http://forums.thinkingwithportals.com/downloads.php.

I'm sure multiplayer would be great too..

TF2 is a pretty deep game with very well defined class roles that target specific player types. I really fail to see how anyone wont get into this game if they give it at least a couple of days. I'm trying to remember how I started, and I think the first 2-3 days were a big "meh", then suddenly things started to click and now I play it every single night for the last 3 years.

10 mins left to buy Trine if you want it for $2. Its really cool.

TF2 is ruined by having hats/costumes/weapons that you have to buy. You cant have anything reasonably competitive and then have custom weapons which give 1 player an advantage.

rayman's world pretty cool looking. rofl when they got into the water level and swim around the coins for a second, was soooooo reminiscent of NiGHTS into dreams. game also looks like it has a really strong earthworm jim feel to it (which is great)

I love both, more the first one than the sequel but ive heard some people that find the first oen too repettitive. Also if you have seen event horizon before kind of spoils the game for you.

The grenade launcher was intentional, but it was just as dumb. Honestly that game had so much potential but lack of support just killed it. Hmm, I've had BIoshock 2 installed and ready to play for like six months now but haven't had time to start it... Why not play Bioshock 2? The first one was amazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing and the second one got good reviews.

i've heard lots of good things about bioshock 2, I assume cap meant play the 1st one before the 2nd; it isn't as if the first one has inferior graphics or gameplay so no reason to skip it for the newer one
