wtf?
40-100bb tables are the best thing that happened to stars since the auto rebuys, since it relegated the faggot short stackers to the 20-50bb tables. |

imo what stars did killed shortstackers but kinda split the player pool. all in all i feel it made games better strange
i feel a lot of winning shortstackers cant beat 50bbmax games - lack of FE prob or something, but def most shortstackers are starting to lose money now

I've got the 50$ from pokerstrategy and gonna start for real.
I've got pretty interested on sit n go since it reward passive play and has larger prize pool for less money.
I got in 2 freeroll yesterday and got decent result, I think my skill are higher than I expected.
I'm still looking for software than would complement my play, those from pokerstrategy seems good, anyone had experience from them?

Don't call me a noob I'm diamond material lol
No there isn't a thread on TL, LP isn't even linked anymore on Tl page.
LP seems pretty much more for the elite, kinda like the good old days of TL. The traffic seems much lower and better quality IMO.

ftp has higher rake than ps |
No it does not. It's only at very micro stakes ($2-$10 NL) that stars rakes less. If you're playing those levels play at stars-is better than FTP with rakeback. If you're playing at least $25 buy in NL consider cake or one of the merge rooms. You can get both rakeback and your full deposit bonus (as it is not deducted from your rakeback as at FTP).
To OP: If you have enough deposit enough to get your full first time deposit bonus. IF you play SNG or tourneys cake is better than merge; if ring games merge is better. As for PS and FTP most players at FTP don't have rakeback=dumber than stars players= more +EV to play there especially with rakeback. You can also get free training at FTP making it three times as good as stars. |

they arent, try and keep an open mind otherwise your progress will be hindered.
youll need a decent sample size before you can evaluate yourself accurately. |

Start at pokerstars - grind the micros (start at nl2) up to 600. Then hit FTP and clear bonus (and get rakeback too - which is great). After that, I would recommend some european skin with good rakeback. |

Hello everyone !
(Short history about me, skip if you don't care)
**
As you can see I'm new to this community. I'm an experienced SC/SC2 player at TL.net and a regular since 2006 and I've recently decided to play online poker. I've played poker IRL for about 4-5 years but never went online. Recently, the Rekrul story motivated me and I'm now ready to grind the tables. I'm not the kind of guy who will blindly start playing something like online poker. I've read alot of stuff on forums and I want to setup myself for some intelligent poker witch is the purpose of this thread.
**
I would like you (awesome experienced TL members to help me get in the best conditions to play online poker. What I am looking for is general recommendations.
Here is some questions I'd like opinions/answers on
1. FTP or PS (both gives 600$ bonus but PS is not listed on TL rakeback)
2. Rakeback : is there anything to know more than make an account and link it to your PS/FTP account?
3. What initial amount should I put in? I could go up to 500$ but I'm planning to play
0.02$/0.04$ table for 20-25 hours to get uses to it so is there a point putting in more than 50$?
4. What other software or add-ons do you uses to calculate odds and track your game. Should I use one or it's only relevant in higher stakes ? I've also read that people buy hand history and such, should I care about this now or just wait to discover that later on?
5. How many tables at a time do you play? Is there a limitation/best way to optimize this?
Thanks for reading/hepling
This thread may belong to low stakes, sry if its the case.

1. Pokerstars does not offer rakeback. Full tilt deducts your bonus from your rakeback-so don't play there for the bonus.
2. Yes: you need to make an account through an affiliate; clear your cookies; sometimes you'll need to enter a code too; often your first deposit has to be a direct first deposit, rather than a transfer. Affiliate shop to make sure you get the best rakeback deal. You'll need poker tracker, hold'em manager or poker office if you're serious about your play, one can often get one of these in addition to rakeback and your bonus from an affiliate, one can also sometimes get them for rooms that don't have rakeback in addition to a first time deposit bonus.
3. 25 hours is really really too short a time. You need to start thinking of 50,000 hands as a small sample size. If you're a maniac you could be on the up side variance even as a losing player for 100,000-200,000 hands, if a nit the same suck outs that can give a maniac his wins can cause you to break even.
4. You certainly need: poker tracker; hold'em manager or poker office, beyond these one does not need anything besides pokerstove (it's free get it today, download.com is your friend). If I were you I would pay the $85 for poker academy pro and play 50k hands on it. If you can't beat its bot and find them incredibly easy you're not ready for ring games, SNGs or MTTs. If you can crush them avoid the ultra microstakes and play $25 NL The reason for this is that one does not want to throw away a first time deposit bonus worth $500+. Also you'll have periods of bad variance that will make you want a break, play with poker academy during those breaks, plus poker stove and your tracking software.
5. If you did play 50,000 hands with poker academy pro start with two tables (you'll be racing to clear your bonus) if you go directly to real money play one and concentrate on getting reads. If one becomes a HUD slave one will not be able to get good reads and learn when, who and how to bluff.
You should play: one table; two tables; three tables; then four tables. If you're learning you don't want to play more than four. One can play 12 up to maybe 24; but if you do this you'll not be learning much, your win rate will be low , your variance high, you'll need to become a HUD slave. I would say after you can play four tables comfortably concentrate upon table selection and bum hunting.
I forgot something very important about rakeback. Some nerworks don't allow you to have more than one rakeback account with them,e.g. merge gaming so one has to consider the best Poker room to play on their network. Go to casino city (don't sign up through them) you can get complete network lists of poker rooms from them. You should be researching a bunch of rooms before picking one to bonus whore or play at. Pokerscout.com is your friend. One can also get free membership at a training site from an affiliate. I would do a lot of research on the networks, affiliates and rooms before playing. |
