Yet another fantasy season is coming up. Last year's LP fantasy football league had Nero take down the title. Hopefully, we can get a full 12 teams this year for a deeper, more interesting league. How to join:

Couple issues that I would like to address. First is the auction/straight draft issue. I've tried the yahoo auction software for baseball and I must say that I was very impressed. The software is excellent and the auction will take only slightly longer, prob less than an hour longer than a straight draft. The pros of auctions are that it allows you to have more control over your team since you have the ability to acquire every player rather than being limited to only the players that are available to you when it's your turn to pick. However, straight drafts are definitely more popular and it is much easier for novices. I'm fine with both formats and we will go with a majority vote.

Second issue is the 1 or 2 QB. I've played in both and I strongly believe the 2QB format is a much superior system for leagues with 12 or fewer teams. With 1 QB and 12 teams, that means only 1/3rd of the starting QBs in the NFL start for a fantasy team on any given sunday. It greatly devalues what is generally accepted as the most important position in football. Last year, since we only had 8 teams, there was no choice but to go with 2 QBs. However, even if we get a full 12 team league this year, I believe we should still go with a 2 QB format but I will also leave this up to vote.

Third issue is that I think it would be a good idea to slightly increase the value of yardage. Last year, I set the scoring for 8 passing/rushing yards per point as opposed to the standard 10 yards per point. The idea behind this is that a goal line RB who gets 2 carries, 2 rushing yards and 2 TDs should not worth more than a RB that gets 30 touches and 110 yards but no TDs. I propose that we slightly increase the value of yardage to 15 passing yards per point and 7 rushing/rec yards per point. I also propose that we increase the milestone bonuses to 3 points for 100 yards, 4 points for 150 and 5 points for 200.

Final issue is the buyin. We have had a hard time filling the league in the past and we went with a small $100 buyin last year. I'd personally prefer to make it a $200 buyin so that the first prize becomes 4 digits and is actually something worth playing for. I will also leave this to a league vote.

Everyone interested in the league should comment on their preferences to the issues mentioned above. Also, everyone should make sure the draft time Tue Aug 24 9:00pm EDT works for you. Yahoo draft times get filled quickly and last minute changes might not be available. Therefore, please check your schedules and do your best to commit to a time. If the above time does not work for you, please let me know ASAP and I will change it.

Any chance of moving the draft time one hour? (I am in Europe, six hours ahead of US Eastern time). 2am is slightly more palatable than 3am :D If not, no worries.

sorry for the late response, I've been really busy this week.

pacifist, I think the majority of people have a lot of things going on in the weekend and would prefer to do it on a weekday. If tuesday doesn't work for you, I can move it to another weekday but at least for me personally, it will be really hard for me to do it on a weekend.

As for the buyin, it seems as though most are fine with a $200 buyin. Everyone can send it to me on PS or FTP, TenBagger (Brooklyn) on both. I need to get the buyin before the draft or at the very least get in touch with me so that we can work something out. As always, everyone can have confidence that the prize pool will be personally guaranteed by me.

It seems as though the majority of the participants prefer a draft so that is what we will go with. Sorry rush, I prefer an auction as well but we need to go with the majority here. Also, football is luckboxing anyway so adding a little more variance to it won't make a huge difference.

Everyone should double check the scoring system and make the proper adjustments. Remember that we are going with a modified PPR where you get a half point per reception. We are also placing a slightly bigger emphasis on yardage so when compared to "standard" leagues, touchdowns are slightly devalued. We will also go with 2 QBs on the starting roster.

We have 2 more open slots so if you are interested in playing, feel free to sign up. Only a few days away from the draft so everyone mark their calenders!

just a heads up to everyone about the slight scoring differences in this league from "standard" leagues.

2 QB

In a "standard" 1 QB, 12 team league, the value of QBs are greatly diminished. The top tier of QBs still get selected relatively early but after the top 5 or so, the value of QBs drops off a cliff. The reason for this is because in a 1 QB, 12 team league, there are only 12 staring QBs in any given week. The marginal difference of 7th best QB and the 12th best QB is not very significant. A QB like Matt Ryan or Eli Manning is not worth much because there will be guys with similar upside such as Stafford or Flacco available near the end of the draft.

However, in a 2 QB, 12 team league, 24 QBs start on any given week. Scrubs like Freeman and Garrard that would definitely be free agents in a 1 QB league will be in a starting lineup in a 2 QB league. Add in injuries and the fact that some teams will hoard reseve QBs and that means that on certain off weeks, it might be a challenge just to find a starting QB to put in your lineup. So while the QB position in a 1 QB league is a plentiful, replaceable commodity, in a 2 QB league, it is a scarce resource. This bumps up the value of all QBs, especially the second tier of QBs.

PPR and yardage

Our league has a 1/2 point per reception scoring system. That means that a receiver with 12 catches in a game will have the equivalent of an extra touchdown worth of value. When compared to non PPR leagues, wide receivers and running backs that catch a lot of balls get a slight bump up. Yardage is also given a 25% increase in value when compared to the "standard" scoring format. This will lead to slightly less variance and players that touch the ball more frequently will be slightly more valuable while situational goal line players that get TDs but not many touches are slightly less valuable.

at the very least send me a pm and tell me that you will be at the draft and when you plan on getting me the buyin. The reason for this is that yahoo locks in the rosters 30 minutes before the start of the draft and no teams can be added or removed. If someone forgets about the draft tonight and they get stuck with a shitty autodraft team, chances are that they will not want to pay for that team and I'll be stuck footing the buyin. that is a situation that has happened frequently in the past and I'd like to avoid that at all costs. If I don't hear from you by 8pm EST tonight, I'm gonna have to go on the assumption that you will not be attending the draft. I can't assume that you will be paying for a shitty autodraft team so I will have to kick your team and find a replacement.
