Live I do it all the time and have zero qualms about it, like everyone else.

I'm interested though to see if other people have noticed that when you do it online, a decent % of the time the fish actually leaves the table. This happens to me maybe 20% of the time or more. Anybody else confirm this?

Maynard!   United States. Mar 09 2010 23:33. Posts 4453

When I was first starting FTP I didnt have enough $ for all tables so I bought into a table short w/ some fish. He asked me if everyone followed me around constantly (obviously referring to the regs). People obviously catch on and it makes them not want to play.

Now I really am a busto. Thanks FTP.Last edit: 09/03/2010 23:35

i really hate the people that hop seats over and over. just changing 1-2 times in a session is understandable from tilt/wanting pos on fish/guy he's steaming at etc. But if they just hop around like it's musical chairs then i would conclude that they are huge faggots.

(online) havent really done it recently but i dont think i ever really startled any fish, i was really surprised that i think twice the fish said something about "its not the seat you dumbass" and i kind of chuckled to myself, but that made me pretty comfortable that i wasnt hurting most fishes feelings, anyway. :O

i dont do it because its a pain in the ass on stars, i did it a few times on FTP over like 100K hands i prolly did it like 3 or 4 times.. but on stars its more of a pain in the ass and im worried about losing my seat on a real good table.. Ive never done it live, i dont think i ever will.

i do it live sometimes and i dont think its douchey at all. Mainly because most people switch seats a ton for superstitious reasons and stuff like that. So when i switch to get position on a fish i feel like im not spiting in their faces, because they probably dont realize my motivation. Its +EV, no ones feeling are getting hurt, and other people switch all the time.

youre a douchebag if you do this live, some young guy did it to me when I sat at 5/10 for the first (and last) time in my life @ bellagio and once the table broke and it just seemed to be regs and myself he switched to my left and as he walked past to grab the seat he meekishly muttered something like 'Iiiiiimmm gonna take this seeat heeree.' I left after like 45 seconds, and I expect anyone here who's had it done to them to be really pissed when some young internet guy does it to you

I play 2/2 live and I'm pretty sure 99% of the fish wouldn't even know why you are changing seats if you sit down on their left so I don't have a problem with it.

Do you spit into someone's face by playing tight on a loose table? By folding with a worse hand? By Isolating a bad player? By bluffing a weak player?

I don't see how seat selection is not just another part of the game, like betting patterns.

I tried doing this for a very short time on party, but there's quite a lot of competition for the midstakes tables and I kept losing my seat and feeling a bit (a lot) of an idiot.

The thing is that a fish is a recreational poker player, not a mentally challenged retard that wont get whats going on when you suddenly take a seat to their left. You are not fooling anyone when you do it and you just make it uncomfortable for the fish and very likely to hurt the game, especially online when its easier for them to just quit.

actually live i mostly do it to get position on people im playing deep with, seeing as how all live players are fish anyway

there are seats with more room at my casino so ppl change seats all the time. i honestly dont think the regulars, much less the fish, realize whats going on when i do it

but it only takes 1 butt-hurt reg who knows what youre doing to blurt it out in a fit of rage.
then shit gets really awkward.

there's a pretty large pool of live players, what does it matter if one person knows that i know about position advantage? i doubt he'll care to tell anyone about it

Because some people cant hold their tongue.
Its not a problem if he knows, its a problem if he says "Hey youre only moving because you want position on Player X!" and PlayerX decides to leave because he doesnt like the feeling of being targetted/the fish etc.

I always choose the most +EV seat on the table and will regularly change where i play.

I don't really care what they think, i know enough table banter to keep the fish placated and happy with me so i have a good social image for the table, and part of the stigma is i am a kid anyway so there are some things they will always do vs me and wont do vs anyone else that i cant change anyway.

which is why no intellegent person would ever say something like that because they dont want the fish to leave either

I think it's kinda duchebaggy.

When I sit at a table I try to take the best possible seat unless I'm the 2nd person to sit down in which case I'll sit to the right of nitty/bad regs, left of lagtards and on the other side of the table from people who seems like good persons (not as in good pokerplayers, but people I try to treat with respect)

doing that just give a slap in the face to others regs and show how of a douche you are

LemOn[5thF]   Czech Republic. Mar 10 2010 14:16. Posts 15163

What exactly would happen online?
And how is it not the same principle as choosing tables (either by VP/IP, or by leaving reg only tables when you are e.g. taking a shot), isolating fish, and sitting to the left of weak players when you first sit down, just somewhat more obvious?

And I read about changing seats is completely standard live, where when a player to the left of the fish leaves all regs move one seat to the right. I am not sure how that works but there always be some untold rule of the closer player having the right to move?

seems like you're missing the point entirely

changing seats is like starting one of those cowboy duels where you take three steps from the other guy and turn around and pull your gun out. except you're already facing the other guy and already have your gun out. it's BM and reeks of asshole-ness, but chances are they won't notice until they're already dead, but you're doing the +EV move.
