8 handed live at a 1/2 table.
Im sitting on about 315 maybe and its only my 6th hand...seems I always have a semi rush when I first join a table. 6 limpers to me on the BB with 4-2 of diamonds. I check and flop bottom two on 2-4-J all hearts. I check and it gets around to a guy in late position and he over bets like 25$ into 12$ pot and gets called by the button. What do? |

yeah i was pretty sure this was a snap fold too. but w/ 1/2 live there are just so many more odd situations where game theory goes out the window. i guess im wondering if a weird small bet or a check raise is ever worth it here. |

i fold cuz its 7 way and theres a million turn/river cards you dont want to see so calling oop here isnt great. c/r isnt good either bcuz getting this in on the flop is going to be spew.
so with 3 options and 2 of them really sucking i'd just fold. |

How is getting it in on the flop as the favorite a spew? Cuz cmon now, you're the favorite like 99% of the time here. Why check flop in 1st position anyway? Somebody's gotta have a heart and somebody is gonna call, so just bet out like this guy did and expect a call. You would have probably got 3 of them. |

i wanted to lead out with a small bet of like 7-8 but was worried about having won 3 of last 4 pots and getting too many spite calls. hindsight after watching the guy play for the next 2 hours and i know that it would have kept him from over betting like he did. blank turn and i can lead out again 2/3-3/4 and prolly take it down a good percentage of the time.
overbet guy stank of AhX or JX (heart or not) but the idiot on button who called ended up scaring me out of the pot. i had insta read that he was a limp call ATS/any pair type. |

You're not making any sense whatsoever. You dont want people calling you with inferior hands out of spite? You want to just "take it down" on the turn? They're DRAWING buddy. So tax that ass and make them pay to hit their flush. |

now if villain thinks like you hey may be overbetting with a set or weak flush to "take it down" now too. Obviously you cant be sure. So dont go off trying to get it allin on the flop here. And some players may even take this line with a draw and are totally happy to just get it in with a naked heart. You didnt really provide much player insight. But generally speaking you should assume players are drawing and 2 pair is too good to play this passively on such a board. |

considering how bad live players are, i'd lead out and get it in on the flop |

after stoving some shit and looking back at the hand, i felt pretty gross for not leading out tbh. its why i made the post. the whole worried about getting 5+ callers thing was just nervousness i guess. |

J4 is probably in their range too. 7 way and you have bottom two on a mono flop. getting it in is mega spew.
i think leading is probably good. |

Ive seen this bet be the nizzles as well as total air, as well everything else in between. IMO, flip a coin. Heads - shove. Tails - Fold. If the coin lands on its side, leave the table. |

i misread it as 2 hearts and still thought it was a fold at some places. Where is this game at? What is your read on the players? Live is very different in terms of game theory and it all becomes about establishing reads, which you can do very fast in live play. Assuming a standard nitty 1/2 game, i would not overplay bottom 2 on a rainbow flop let alone a monotone flop. When I have played 1/2, big bets are usually made hands but i have seen plenty of big bets in this situation as top pair with or without a flush draw. So what's your read? |
