I was just about to enter the hotel where the event is held as 5 masked men were running out directly in front of me,apparently fleeing.
Still pretty shocked.
Talked to some guys and a security men ,who was badly beaten up(but still in astonishing good shape).
So far i can tell,that there def. seemed to be not enough security.
and the games will continue on 4 pm european time(in 15 minutes).

From what I heard at the live tourney I was playing today, the guys who robbed it used knives. Not sure if that's true, but if it is, it's pretty hilarious.

the tournaments are being played at the grand hyatt hotel which is just next to the casino (same deal with ept london where the cashgames were played at the vic casino and the tournament was at the hilton metropole hotel just up the road). The high roller tournament was today and the buyins were collected behind a desk in the hotel and not yet transferred to some sort of safe (they hit just when the late registration period was about to close)

wow thats crazy shit - last year in monte carlo someone did like some weird joke after getting permission from the tournament director - hard to explain but he had a mask on and got everyones attention very loudly pretending he was going to assault someone i think, saying like 'online poker isn't a joke anymore' etc, but it was all a joke lol
if you click there and check out the video on the bot, its got the best view of the action..
so what happens is you see a kinda calm start, then the security guard at the desk grabs a big black register and chucks it at the head of the guy in the red ( a robber ) then the guy in the black mask starts screaming and the security guard jukes back a bit, then grabs the rail with the heavy metal base, and smashes the guy in the red for the 2nd time, and hes down. the guard then jumps in the guy in the red and has him in a choke hold, and about 14 second later the other 2 robbers come back, one wielding the same rail thing that just smashed his buddy, so the guard let the guy in the red go and they all ran off. But that security guard is a bad ass, just watching him smash that dude in the red is awesome.

I remember there was a case in the USA where a robber hurt himself breaking into a house and sewed and won. So yeah I wouldn't be too surprised if you were prosecuted for protecting yourself with the gun of an armed robber.
Also, I'm not sure if you've ever shot a gun before but shooting a moving limb like an arm or a leg is extremely difficult to do unless you're a well trained marksman. It's actually best to just shoot for the chest and claim self defense.

The other reason and probably the main reason he didn't grab the gun and hold the guy in red hostage is because it would be incredibly easy for the other guys to grab a civilian and have them as a hostage. Then you have a hostage stand off with a civilian and that's when shit gets messy.
