This will already be the 4th season of LP Fantasy Baseball. Last year, uptown held off a late surge by yours truly to claim the title. The results were:

1st - Uptown ($1200)
2nd - TenBagger ($600)
3rd - Jamie217 ($300)

Format is the same as the past 3 years, standard roto 5x5 on yahoo, daily transactions, and a live snake draft tentatively scheduled for THURSDAY Mar 18 9:00pm EDT. $200 entry fee

Unfortunately there was not enough interest in the dynasty league so that has been cancelled.

We have 10 signed up so far on the yahoo site and several other people have mentioned interest so I'm sure we'll have at least 12. However, I would really like to have a more challenging, deeper league so 12-15 teams would be really nice. If anyone is interested or knows people that are interested, please posat here or PM me. Finally, everyone please make sure you are able to attend the live draft. I can change the draft date but I am going away on vacation the week of the 22nd and I have some other drafts going on right before the start of the season so I would really like to draft on the week of the 15th-19th.

I do not think a keeper league would work because the same people arent playing every year and its really not fun unless you are sure 95%+ of the people playing will play again the next season. I am in a competitive keeper league and its awesome but everyone has come back going on four years now. Also, in regards to auction vs standard draft, if we are going to do an auction I seriously recommend the league be moved from yahoo to cbs. I am not crazy about the yahoo interface to begin with but I also have heard that Yahoo doesn't show the auction prices once you have drafted. Obviously this is their first year offering the format so I am not sure of what other differences exist between the two sites but I do know that CBS has offered auction drafts for years now so I am far more confident in the quality there compared to yahoo. If we are paying $200+ per team, I am sure nobody would mind paying an extra $10 per team to pay for CBS.

CBS is better than ESPN?

I think CBS owns all other sites but ESPN and Yahoo are free and CBS can cost upwards of $150 for a league there so for the price it should be superior.

And I'd play the non-keeper, because I don't know if I care to pay attention to that much baseball for that long.

yahoo premium one is what we use for keepers. has everything u want and the league gets stat tracker which is cool

LP leagues rage me because half the people just quit because they don't care about the money when they wind up losing/doing bad....

I can say that all the people in baseball signed up so far have been extremely active and are solid players. In basketball, we got a couple people that have apparently given up but having played in a lot of leagues, that is inevitable. I've played in 1K+ buyin leagues where owners have given up a month into the season. As long as they don't try to manipulate the standings by playing favorites in categories or making bad trades, and they log in every now and then and keep their lineups reasonable, that is the best you can realistically ask for.

I just feel like because most of the people from LP that do the leagues have a good amount of money, then they just say "oh who cares it's just $200" more so than other people. And then we have a league with like only 50% of the participants checking their team and that is just stupid. Yeah I expect a couple people to give up, but not usually 5 out of 10 or 4 out of 10 or 4 out of 8 or w/e. That's a lot of the league not caring.....

I dunno our baseball league last year was pretty competitive and I dont think anyone gave up or stopped caring

I'm just speaking for the football and basketball this year. We barely had enough for a league for football and even teams that MADE the playoffs stopped checking their teams. As for basketball, so far I'd say like 6 out of the 10 participants check their team.

i am very busy right now until july so i don't think ill have the time to research and follow my team. Also, 200 dollars is not chump change to me, so I would like to do it right if i do it at all.

I consider myself the UNC of the LP Basketball League. From FIRST to WORST.

Well I'll agree with you on football. If you recall, I didn't even want to go through with the league because there wasn't enough interest but Nero really pushed for it and I ended up adding my own money to the prize pool to make it more interesting. I really think that the fact that the entry fee was only $100 and the fact that the league was shallow and the prizes were pretty meager had a lot to do with it. From my experience, the activity level and seriousness of the league is usually directly proportional to the prize pool.

But basketball this year has been pretty competitive. You are right that the last 4 teams are not as active and they are a bit behind in games played but if you look at their lineups, they are almost always set properly. Pacifist and NBB were first and second last year respectively and they were extremely active and competitive. Even joeingram who has been fairly inactive since day 1, I see he got a co-owner who has been setting the lineups. I've made a few trade proposals to all of them and they have all been rejected fairly quickly so they are checking. Just because they are not going apeshit on the waiver wire doesn't mean that they are not active. The last 4 are also basically out of contention so you can't realistically expect them to be nuts about their team. As long as their lineups are reasonable set and they respond to trade offers, I'm totally fine with their participation levels.

Finally, I want to say that each sport has a different set of owners and very few guys play all the sports. Dzoo, Jamie, Tripsearchin, these guys play only baseball and have been part of the league for a while now. I'd say that baseball has the highest activity level and is the most serious and competitive out of all the fantasy sports so I definitely wouldn't hold the fact that football was kinda boring and apply that to baseball. Well, TalentedTom did join a couple years back and I think he went the whole year without making a single move and ended up in dead last but besides for that, this league has been very competitive and active.

I'd be willing to go 50/50 on a team with you if you wanted. That way you would be able to be involved as much as you could.

rush/acdawg, it would be great to have you guys join. We already have 10 so the league will run but it would be nice to get at least 12 for a more competitive league.

We have a week left until the draft so if you guys can start sending me the buyin, TenBagger (Brooklyn) on stars or FT or pm me for alternative arrangements. Also, make sure to run the test and have the latest version of flash before the draft. We've had people miss the start of the draft due to installing flash and restarting their computers.

I have a request to push the draft back. Anyone object to moving the draft til 9 or 10pm?

I'd preferably like to split a team with someone, since I don't have a ton of extra money and I might do more than one league so I'd like to only spend like $100 per league. So yeah if someone wants to be co-managers with me on a team then I'm in.

Hmm I may be interested. Fakeshaver and I share(d) teams in the baseball, football, and basketball leagues. I do most of the work lol. I may prefer the other way. I'll let you know soon.

roughly 3 of those pitches may maintain their pace. Price, Jimenez, maybe 1 of wilson or garcia will reliable the rest of the year.

I'd like to say I've never been as stressed out as watching live stats to see if my team would hold 3rd. Which in itself is a disgrace since somehow the team was ez 2nd and now barely 3rd but thank god it held.
