Nah. Smokey is definitely bad - doesn't want anyone on the island, kills people, deceives by appearing as the dead, even makes it obvious by throwing away the white stone from the scale in the cave. But perhaps it's not really all black and white as we thought it was as Jacob is appearing to be more and more devious as recently evidenced by Dogens story of how he met him.

I think reversing good and evil is about as much as the writers can do to tie up the series after having dug themselves so deep.
