Thought this was getting some pretty funny convo, so I'd bring it over here. The hand history on the original post is a little off, the exact hand went like this. It was just single straddled so $5/$10/$20, young guy who posted the thread is named Jake and is one of the bigger winners in most line-ups at this cardroom. He is sitting a little over $9k deep and I cover. I raise button to $80, he flats the SB. Everyone else folds.
Flop comes: (Pot: $190)
Jake checks, I bet $150, Jake check-raises to $450, I call.
Turn comes: (Pot: $1090)
Jake checks, I bet $700, Jake check-raises to $2100, I tank for a minute then call.
River comes: (Pot: $5290)
Jake checks, I tank for 10 seconds then shove all-in for $6k+ on river.
Jake sighs and turns face-up and after a little time mumbling to himself, folds.
+ Show Spoiler +
Then I show the and the crowd goes wild. lol
Flame away lol

Given that you have the A 8 of clubs, the only hands that makes any sense for him to have is pocket Kings with the King of clubs or a made flush like K Q clubs. And the only way he'd have this hand is if he was a calling station who just couldn't lay down pocket Kings or King high flush. And to be fair, there are plenty of players who just can't lay down hands like this in this situation despite the giant neon sign that says you are strong here.
So when the King of Clubs comes on the river, that should have told you you were way way way good here because no way would someone stick around after that check raise with pocket kings and no king of clubs.
So when he calls you on the turn, to me, that is just way way way too strange of a play. I mean, what would call that check raise? Made flush and or KKs with King of club. Nothing else calls that check raise, full house at least min raises you there.
Incidentally, when you check raise the turn and then check the river, that is a huge show of weakness begging for any decent player to put the heat on you. And the K of clubs is a GREAT bluff card on the river.
As played, you have to call the river IMO unless you are scared of quad Jacks. Quad jacks would be the only hand that 'makes' sense given the progression of the action (though I still think quad jacks min raises you on the turn). And being scared of quads is just no way to play since they happen so infrequently.
I've noticed that when players are deeped stacked and huge amounts are involved, that players rarely will call an all-in unless they have the absolute nuts. I think this is a leak in a lot of people's game and gets exploited alot. |

| Browsing through your hand histories makes me wonder that you might not be aware these games are possibly play money. Have you ever tried to cash out? - Kapol | |

| Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light not our darkness that most frightens us and as we let our own lights shine we unconsciously give other people permision to do the same | |
