I have some time before WSOP starts and writing an article on tournaments is something i've wanted to do for a while now, sort of a way to give back to community and to see if i am any good at it. If there's any interest in this respond here with what you would like to read about! I don't know how to add a poll b/c I suck at liquid pokering. Hope this isn't a super fail!!

And here I was, always thinking that tournament poker was always about shallow stakes and shoving ranges...

ok cool this has a lot of interest, I think i'm just going to write kind of an overall tournament strategy article that discusses a few of the important differences between mtt's and cash games and SNG's. (like stack sizes, how to play diff. stages of the tournament pre ante and post ante, playing vs regs and playing vs randoms, changing gears, and just for fun a little bit of insight on how much online tournaments have changed in the last couple of years due to the availability of information.. like this article!!)

I'll be writing it in the next couple of days.

How to play early levels to best exploit the big fielded tournaments and get the most from the fish while they still have chips. I. e. what type of image u want etc.

Also, article on how to exploit being on a table that is suppossed to break very early, where u dont need a solid image for later.

there is a light at the end of the tunnel... (but sometimes the tunnel is long and deep as hell)Last edit: 20/05/2009 15:45

Go for it - publish the article!
With the WSOP 2009 coming up, it's going to be great.
You can get great ideas from wsop 2009 section on pokernews, or at wsop at pokernewsdaily

I have a question for bigred, thats ive wondered about for some time;

At what point does a tournament field become too big? (i.e.becomes a crapshoot like the ME)

rogier   Netherlands. May 21 2009 11:52. Posts 1528

awesome you're doing this looking forward to this - even though i do not have a lot of tourney experience so far i will definately read it and use it in november (live tourney though )

I don't think they can get too big, more people = more equity. But bigger fields do mean lots more variance, and theoretically you can play a lifetime of live mtt's and not know what your true ROI is . Tournaments are sick.

sounds very good.

a section on "the difference in rebuy toruneys" would be great as well

I think people tend to underestimate the true effect variance has on your actual earn. Even with a good ROI, at a certain point the large fields jacks up your variance to a point where you will never see your earnings realized even with multiple lifetimes of play. There are of course all sorts of considerations like time investment (which also gets jacked up a lot especially with live play) that make it tough to really say, but I suspect the point at which a field becomes "too big" to be an efficient use of money/time/mental power is considerably lower than it looks.
