At what point does a tournament field become too big? (i.e.becomes a crapshoot like the ME)

awesome you're doing this looking forward to this - even though i do not have a lot of tourney experience so far i will definately read it and use it in november (live tourney though )

I don't think they can get too big, more people = more equity. But bigger fields do mean lots more variance, and theoretically you can play a lifetime of live mtt's and not know what your true ROI is . Tournaments are sick.
