Hey i just recently re-read Riftwar Saga for the 3rd time in my Life.
And even though i rarely have time for non university books anymore and i also think i am kinda outgrown of all that fantasy orks and humans stuff.

It all began when Lord of the Rings 1-3 (Good films , but the books are shallow medicore fantasy stuff imo) was shown in TV again.
I thought id like to re-read "The Silmarillion" again which is a good fantasy book with interesting stories and great fantasy characters.
I read through it and i actually enjoyed it.
The Silmarillion > LOTR 1-3 books by a mile.

After reading The Silmarillion i decided i will give Riftwar saga another try that i absolutely loved to read as a teenager when i was 16 years old.

While reading these ~ 2000 pages ( 4books) of Fantasy i got absolutely stunned again.
I was reading the story and all the epic things that happend and thought
( Holy shit this is simply the best fantasy stuff of all time period)

So if u enjoy stuff with Wizzards, Darkelves, dwarfs and Dragons in epic battles and wonderful Quests.
The story of those 4 books beats anything i ever read in the fantasy universe by a mile !

The story is written in 4 books

Magician : Apprentice 528pages <-- mostly introduction into teh universe ( nothing too dramatic happens so far)
Magician : Master 499pages <-- Story starts to get epic and quite a few very cool things happen
Silverthron 343pages <-- things start to get evil and a world full of chaos and darkness is described
A Darkness at Sethanon 464pages <-- Most epic shit ive ever read in fantasy books.

I heard that in the UK there is a shorter version availible where the first 2 books are released in 1 book that is just named Magician.

Should cost u about ~ 40$ alltogether and is absolutely worth it if ure into the fantasy scenario

LOTR is a baby joke compared to Riftwar Saga.

Just felt the need to recommend it to any fantasy fan

I read and liked Riftwar, but I just wanna say that your LOTR comparison is misguided at best. Are you an SC guy? Saying LOTR is a baby joke compared to Riftwar is like saying Boxer is a baby joke compared to Bisu. Sure Bisu can beat the stuffing out of Boxer, but it sort of misses the point.

Riftwar is definitely way above average in the fantasy genre but I wouldn't call it spectacular or anything. Good, solid series.

Chronicles of Amber

my first and middle names come from these books and they are excellent. books 1-5 are better than books 6-10, but all were worth reading imo

I only read 2 novels in my life, lord of the flies, and the others. Only the lord of the flies was good and the other just sucked.

Bisu's corsair multitasking is a baby joke compared to A Song of Ice and Fire.
Then again, Duke Nukem Forever is a baby joke compared to A Dance With Dragons.

Well i read a lot of the Forgotten reamls stuff.
I really liked it very much for the most parts.
What i didnt like too much were the fights described in those books.

However i personaly think if Forgotten Realms is 8/10 Riftwar = 10/10

Well i dont know about u , but when i read Riftwar i found it pretty spectacular.
tbh i ve read quite some fantasy books ( LOTR , Sillmarillion , Shanarra, Forgotten realms etc. + some other Feist Sagas like Serpent War or Empire) but nothing did come even close.

Like can it become any more spectacular than the story of the Valheru ? ( The ancient dragon lords who were in war with every creatures and races in the universe since they first came to life. They enslaved every other race and conquerd every Kingdom in the universe till finally nothing was left to be conquerd anymore and in their never ending hunger for power they finally decided to have war against the gods that lastest decades and finally 84 of 100 Gods and all of the Valheru "died" .
But in the very moment they realized defeat they created the most powerful artefact that will save them from final death and may enable them to return to the world in later ages.

This may not be cool to everyone ^
But i think its odd if u dont find that spectacular ^^

also the story of the main character Pug and his develepment through the books is incredible.

I am quite aware with what u mean by LOTR is like Slayers Boxer
Well it was the first really good fantasy stuff out. ( it came out frist in like 1948 afaik)
I give credits for that ^^

However LOTR 1-3 were some of the most medicore fantasy books i ve read.
I d give it a 5,5/10 maximum

dont get me wrong , i really like the LOTR universe and i think The Silmarillion is very good book 8,5/10
I also liked the LOTR films

chronicles of amber and related books ( tho not as good) as well as other stuff by zelazny, riftwar series along with all the other books that tie into that universe by feist, sword of truth ( tho it peeters out at the end), wizard and knight series (2 part by by wolf), swans war series by russel, alvin maker series by card (as well as his ender series which is sci fi sorta), book of the new sun by wolf as well which is split into like 3 books....needless to say there are many good fantasy books, tho i wouldnt recommend anything by terry brooks that plagerizing asshole. talk about ripping off lord of the rings

haters gonna hate

If you like fantasy, check out Axis Trilogy by Sarah Douglas. First book is BattleAxe. She's an Australian author so you probably haven't heard of her, but her books are highly acclaimed here and they truly do kick ass.

Very gritty novels, they're fat 700pages each and I read them all when I was 11 years old lol (odd for an 11 yr old I guess...).
