I live in America and I don't like a lot of things that go on with the politics and the simple, ignorant, everyday lifestyle of your average NASCAR watchin honkey. But hey, I live life, it doesn't that I'm from America, it should only matter that I make good choices in life, including reading LP religously, and laughing at Baal's posts.

It's probably just my perception, but we seem to have an incredible standard deviation in intelligence... I feel like I run into very few "average" people, usually significantly below or above average, and there's a lot more of the below. We're the wealthiest and most powerful country. Americans tend to be less well mannered than the rest of the civilized world and maybe we put people off when we travel to other places. Finally, we're fucking fat and our resource consumption on a per person basis is absolutely outrageous compared even to other wealthy western democracies. We have a lot of religious fucktards compared to other 1st world countries, I'd hate us too if I was from another country and knew Americans were so tolerant and influenced by types of religious extremism in their own country yet so intolerant of it abroad. I think the fact that Sarah Palin was taken seriously by a huge portion of the population is evidence of this. The fact that there seems to be a worse ratio of stupid:not stupid probably accounts for how many more religitards we have compared to other nations. Our government is shockingly incompetent at times. Voters are completely disengaged and uninformed, making important decisions that have far reaching effects on the rest of the world based on stupid crap that doesn't really matter that much. Voters are incredibly susceptible to advertising and seem to be among the most impressionable in the world, I dunno about other nations, but I'd wager a large bet that the correlation between money spent on advertising for campaigns and probability of victory is much higher than the rest of the western world. Our public education system is abysmal and breeds hilarious discrepancies in opportunity which are clearly correlated with race. People had rights taken away due to things they were born with and were entirely out of their control, actually wait we still do this with gays. I guess France is the only civilized country who's racism problem is worse than ours. People like me use the word civilized to describe countries which basically simply means how much they conform to American ideals of how government should function, thought he standard of living is also considered in deciding whether a country is civilized or not. We're physically inactive and lazy, hence the fat thing. We drive too much and refuse to use public transit. Our culture invades the rest of the world and pushes everyone else's out. We support Israel and the middle east has rampant anti-semitism so they have all these crazy ideas about a shadow jew government conspiring against the muslims or some shit. We produce a lot more waste (not just of the greenhouse gas variety either, but just trash, garbage, discarded and obsolete items, etc. We're still the new kids on the block and it's only been a few hundred years. We make retarded laws prohibiting or regulating voluntary, non violent actions such as sex or online poker. We give an industry hundreds of billions of dollars with little oversight or supervision involved.
That said, I love America and I'd never want to live anywhere else except maybe Canada.
Oh yeah, on the gun nuts thing, cause I know somebody mentioned it by now. I bet if Americas loose gun laws were used in any other nation, the violence wouldn't be anywhere even near close. Like the Finland shooting recently, that was the first time since like 1989 and they have a pretty high gun ownership rate, I believe it was second to the US but I might be wrong, I know they're in the top 10 though. The problem isn't guns or gun laws, it's fucktards.

There's a lot of truth here ^^^
I think there is an underlying resentment felt by a lot of people re Americans but I think hatred is going too far (for most!). I think it largely stems from the perceived arrogance of a lot of Americans (not ignorance have many have been saying - which can be funny). If anyone starts with the premise that they are the best there is instant resentment - just think about it - doesn't matter what you are talking about unless someone earns the right to call themselves the best e.g. Tiger Woods then calling themselves the best breeds resentment and general dislike. The best part of course is that those who are the best e.g. Tiger would never say something so crass.
I also think Americans have the habit of taking what is basically a good idea but taking it too far. For example:
- political correctness - what the fuck is that all about? And it has invaded every part of the world. What differentiates bigoted or rascist terms from politically correct terms is common sense. Politcally correct....lol
- Litigation....don't think I need to go much further. Why do MacDonald's have a warning that coffee or hot apple pies are hot....doh.
I am sure there are loads of other examples where American inspired "ideas" have invaded the rest of the world for the worse.
Don't get me wrong - I actually like most yanks I've met. Most of us limeys do.... |

understatement again, being a warmonger and genocidal state supporting insane dictators, get them to power and then invade and rape the country to get rid of that same dictator, arming totally foreign and independant countries to fight wars they shouldnt be involved with (israel vs palestinians, afghanistan vs russia), then invading and raping the country they once helped shipping weapons etc.
Sorry but "bossing around" doesnt cut it, not even close. |

In my travels around Europe and Thailand, Americans are really easy to get along with, just an easy going bunch, and good fun. They may be hated for the actions of their government, but I met some really good dudes and chicks. And they seem far happier than the eastern europeans, like you see a Russian walkign down the street and the dude just looks angry as fuck, also the brits, irsh and scottish are pretty fucking annoying when they get drunk, and the brits and australians get violent when drunk, for the most part Americans are not so violent. |

Imho people dislike america becouse they need a scapegoat.
Its very convenient for western-country citizens to point at america and yell that they represent everything that's wrong with democratic kapitalism.
All the while forgetting that their own country is doing the same thing but on a different scale.
To me the EU(for example) and the USA are just two different heads sprouting from the same dragon.

I bet this zebra doesn't like the lion right now either. In the USA, we're the baddest motherfucker on the block. People in weaker countries (every other country) expect us to never use this power for our own benefit. LOL
Pretty much all those things that people said in this thread as negatives about the USA are true. Just remember one thing: The reason why life on earth evolved beyond single cell organisms living in the ocean is because the strong dominate the weak. This has been always been the case and always will be the case whether the weak like it or not.
