So I dont wanna complain about any bad beat stories etc.
The deal is, once I play cashgame tables, everythings superstandard, get coolered, win a stack etc.
but once I lost like 1-2 stacks by suckouts, I:
1. cant make myself stop playin (cause its mostly when I just started playing)
2. start to tilt sometimes...
How can I avoid this? Stop-loss BI rule etc. wouldnt work well for me..
I thought about playing SnGs for a week or 2.. never got on tilt in those -.-
any ideas? |

I do this too man. It comes from predispositions, and genuinely running bad doesn't help either.
u will go on tilt from sngs too, i guarrantee it. its just a matter of the bad swing coming. sngs can be more unreal than anything lolz(well except maybe fl)
the only way to get better about tilt is to 1.) play a ton and 2.) always ALWAYS ALWAYS be trying to not tilt. don't give in to that shit |

After having two -$900 days on NL50 and NL100 in the past 3 weeks which kept crushing my finally growing bankroll I decided to try a 2-3 buy in stop loss. I found out that does not work for me either (luckily when I broke it I rebounded and made 4 buy ins) so I understand your problem. Maybe some breathing exercises and cut your playing tables in half to focus more so you don't just click buttons too fast cause this is terrible terrible when on tilt. |

What help me not to tilt:
1- Try to focus on the current hand dealt, it will distract your brain from the beat you just got inflicted
2- Don't speak or curse when it happens or hit something because it's gonna increase your rage
3- Tighten up for the next 5 mn, time i need to cool down
4- If it's not working then quit for 30 mn and come back if i feel i got myself under control
5- If nothing worked, i insta-quit and do something else for the whole day
Hope it can help, but i think this aspect of poker is the toughest to deal with mentally...

i was the same way with cash, i would want to put in a 1K hand session, or get like 2K hands in that day.. b 300 hands in and get super gayed multiple times and be so tilted i had to stop.. then i would come back in an hour and insta tilt.. made it very hard to put in alot of hands or have any good comebacks.. couple things that helped me was
1. playing with alot more buyins.. when i had 100bi it was VERY hard to get me upset, i also felt alot more comfortable exploring different options in spots and i constantly wanted to extend my winning stretches instead of just booking a winning day and quiting after my 1K hands or w/e.
2nd thing i did was switch to tournaments.. lol.. its basically expected to lose in a tourny.. everyone knows they cant win every one and its common to not cash for a whole day.. so i dont have any grand expectations and i dont feel bad about losses, and when i win i feel great cuz its noramally alot of money.. unlike cash where when i would win anything other 4 buyins it was just standard, but when i lost i got upset... u spend 2 much time being upset with ur game and not enjoying the winning side.. i still play cash, but now i use 100bi rule if i can, and i play tournys all day also, that way if cash blows i can just quit, or take a few days off no problem.
wow i wrote alot, hope this helps, gl |

dont really think this is a solution as this will just make the amount of bi's your willing to lose on tilt to be larger or something of that nature |

something that used to help me a bit was to think of a person i hate and have that person be next to me, me holding a big wad of money and i would be like
"here, i hate u and im angry, take this money.. TAKE IT .. ahhh TAKEEE IT!" while i would throw some green to him!
In general, i think everyone has a triggering point where some sort of frustration/anger starts kicking in. Usually the better the player the harder it is to trigger this.
Experience helps a bunch, but a constant vigilance on how your state of mind is is really important. Once you start feeling a bit of anger/frustration stop before u reach the point of no return, otherwise known as the 'neilly point'
A graphical representation of this would be nice.
Anyways training that will get your tolerance better and better. |

I tried to click off the chat too, but after 5 bad beats I insta click it on and tell everyone they are a fucking idiot. Radiohead has berated me for it on msn many times, and I agree its stupid behavoiour. Somehow I just cant help myself.
Best solution for me was to email the site and ask them to chat bann me permanent :D It has helped A LOT so far for my tilt... |

Also just dont give a damn about variance, just think "I got it in with the best hand so w/e", thats what I do. It helps. |

If I'm tilting and I'm not calming down, but I just want to let out aggression I'll move to 2nl and just donk shove everything for a couple hands. Most you'll likely is what $10? Depending on your limit that may not be an option, but there is always play money as well. |

That's a great advice ! I actually tilt/get angry only because after losing a hand or a couple of them I talk to myself - I smear other players, curse etc.
God, I do have to stick to the rules you posted Sheitan. |

I don't think it's about giving in so much as reframing your perspective so you don't have any pressure (that you need to constantly keep in check just to make sure your head doesn't explode spontaneously).
Horrible horrible horrible players never tilt because they have no idea what the fuck is going on.
Not results oriented < Disoriented.
imo the cursing thing is person to person. Some people can really benefit from just letting that stuff loose verbally if they really need to. |

what can you do against tilt besides just resist it?
take breaks a decent amount of the time tho. i put in 70k hands in november. ran like dog shit and still stayed sane and not broke.
a few things kept me from going over the edge.
1. weed.
2. frequent breaks (i took a break every 1k hands or so depending if i felt frustrated or not. If i was winning and playing good i'd prolly keep going)
3. for me personally. going over the sessions' stats mid way through and look over graphs and shit helps reassure me that i'm playing good and not just sucking hard.
and for after bad sessions don't just mull over it although it does feel good sometimes to just whine and vent and shit. But don't let it make your day shit. cuz you'll just be miserable then. |
