I just got an email from stars(I think it was for affiliates only) saying no Italy players are no longer allowed to play real money. This is worse than the US, I mean, we just can't deposit easily, but for Italian players, they are not allowed. Or maybe everyone knew this and I was living in a cave. idk

Okay guys, it seems there're no italians on this sait, so I will have to step in and say my opinion as an almost permanent resident in Italy.

I study in Milan for about an year now and since the very beginning I wasn't able to open any gambling related saits. I had to ask friends from back home to send me installers and stuff. However once installation is complete, there are NO problems. I spoke to other italians who play poker and they confirmed, the only problem is in downloading the poker client. Indeed, they are trying to legalize and remove the restriction but for the time being, no italian resident can browse any poker saits (since 01.01.2007 I think).

To be 100% sure, I have just logged on Pokerstars with my account which is registered with an italian address and there were no problems. It even allowed me to deposit money.

So, calm down, we are not gonna lose the italian fishes. xD

I am not saying I know anything about any of it but please tell us what is right then. I mean, I'd expect it this way: world economy worse --> poker economy worse... but some people seem to disagree here and you can say loads of things, but they do make things sound good.

yeah... i think when they (italian govt.) said that online poker was legalized i think they meant playing in an italian site controlled by the government...

http://europe.cardplayer.com/poker-news/article/online-poker-kicks-off-in-italy

Gioco Digitale Paved the Way with First Real-Money Online Cash Game Yesterday

With the seal of approval from Italy’s gaming authority AAMS, virtual cards were shuffled up, and real-money games played out for the first time on Italian licensed website Gioco Digitale yesterday afternoon. GamblingCompliance.com today reported that two tables with buy-ins of €0.50 kicked things off, with 18 enthusiasts reserving their seats in six seconds, and completing the games in 90-minutes.

President of Gioco Digitale Carlo Gualandri said that the company was very satisfied to be the first operators in Italy to offer real-money poker. With hopes for what this could now mean for the industry, he later added that over the past few months the company processed 50 million play-money hands of poker in 1.5 million tournaments.

As real money online poker can now make its first appearance on Italian gaming sites, expectations are high, with the government speaking of the business being worth €400 million in its first 12 months.

Poker sites are sure to be launched in abundance as interest grows in the Italian online gaming industry. Market leader SNAI has promised that its real-money version will be up and running in October.

Italian Players

Due to the current legal situation in Italy, PokerStars are no longer
offering a real money client to new players signing up that reside in
Italy. We are only offering a play money client to residents of Italy.

Italians outside Italy will still have access to the real money client, as
will all players that have already signed up.

My guess is that this is probably only going to temporarily, to get the license. If they don't obey their law then they won't get licensed. So we have to sacrifise some italian fish now, for a big flood coming in later.

California would be about 7th if I remember correctly (if it were a country) and Italy is a pretty poor country (per capita for Europe) so i think some screwed up figures being used here....let me do some hunting and I'll try to post something useful rather than this ramble.
