For new members: My feelings about the green star system

Basically I am making this thread for new members to liquidpoker so that they can understand the GREENSTAR system.

The Green Star was handed out once upon a time to posters on liquidpoker.net that had shown they were highly skilled poker players. In its heydey there were posters this autistic looking dude TalentedTom who was making beaucoup bucks in midstakes poker by being an autist and he would provide comments in poker hands discussion that were bomb. The Green star allowed members to filter out advice made from noob posters like Loco as well as providing some sort of aspiration to follow in your poker journey.

However as the poker economy fell into disrepair even the most successful players found it tough to beat the games and eventually most players on this site are no longer in poker.

It has come to our attention recently that the Greenstar has a glitch on this site that does not allow for it to be removed from a user.

Hmm, it's plainly obvious that you want it stripped from him because you don't like his social/political views, or him personally.

I wanted the green star a couple years ago and I got the bracelet instead. So apparently it's still possible to give people bracelet icons, (even though I didn't win one). I'd prefer a Greenstar btw, It has more value to me than a bracelet icon. Maybe Meat or Nazgul can hand them out? Drone666 is long overdue for a greenstar as well, as is anyone currently beating midstakes (in my personal view). So I guess Lemon would be as well. Might be an idea to make a list of people who missed out.

I had hopes of getting a greenstar once upon a decade ago ;(. tbh not like theres much poker discussion of note on this site at all anymore though, Its more of a hangout. Realistically discussion mostly comes from questions IMO and no one is really asking any useful ones for improving. Only talk of strat is people posting hands in the hand window and waiting for handouts of people wanting to give them the answers to whats wrong with how they are playing them not even asking questions, or just display them for others to see. Also i doubt theres almost anyone playing anymore. AFAIK its just you and me and mezmerizeplz actively playing midstakes+ for a living still. Theres probably a handful of others that never post. I know pooruser was playing still a couple years ago. This is definitely not a strategy forum anymore lol

I value my green star mostly in a nostalgic way. I joined this site in November or December of 2005. I found the poker thread on TL and came right over here so was probably one of the first on the site. I don't remember when they gave out the green stars but at that time if it was summer 2006 or later I was at least a blue belt especially 2007 or later I was really crushing the mid-stakes and basically giving it my all in the hand discussion. Active and not withholding any information. Later years, maybe I got to a purple belt or a brown belt or maybe not and maybe I was not active and I was withholding information but just as I had trained in Renzo Gracie Academy under Warren Stout and many others I never lose my color or stripes unless I level up. I always kind of thought of this place as Naz's place. Also, Meat because I enjoy Gijoy but Naz was a real killer at the tables from what I could tell. Maybe thorladen was a stronger black belt in the beginning but he was never that active. Hell, I don't think I ever actually played a hand with either of them unless thorladen had a PLO smurf account later in my career.

It's 2021 today. I would assume anyone beating mid-stakes today is a way better player than I am 10 years later. Of course, it is true. There may be some things I figured out with math about bankroll management and win rates and risk and stuff like that but as far as solvers and playing hands I would need a lot of work. I had a lot of tricks up my sleeve back in the day but solvers beat all of that. You don't need LP anymore you need to study solvers and get a discord group.

I know my blog is like it's own creature that ebbs and flows and can be volatile almost like a kudzu invading the blog section here and that has just been the way it has been at times.

I'll happily give my star to Stroggoz or drone666 but that is just puffing up my chest because now I know I can't do that. Those are 2 players that I know are better than me because I have followed their hands.

I think I probably pissed hiems off somewhere early in his development here and he just gets more angry with me as time goes by. I would love to see my suggestion(s) to him as a poker player. There has got to be some of them out there. I may try to search tonight.

I looked up some posts. I was annoying as fuck in a number of his blogs. Especially, when I was in my buddhist phase. My poker suggestions while more wordy than it needed to be was spot on though.

I'd be very surprised if only 2-3 people play poker for a living here. I guess it's on and off for most people.

I quit for good about half a year ago, and am planning to start a phd in math next year. Poker is going to continue to decline until only people from Russia and Brazil can make a decent living, so i'd advise looking for something else in the meantime if you aren't already.

Just cost of living, it's still an attractive scenario to play for a living when $20,000 is more than what a scientist earns in Russia. I just picked 2 examples of the kinds of places more and more pro's are from. Could've picked a bunch of other examples. The Russian mid-high stakes poker community is pretty tight and many have met each other in real life, so they usually know when one of their own is a bot or not. Very few Russian players on stars are bots from what i can tell. The software situation is pretty bad, I remember waking up, opening a thread on 2p2 about a guy who was playing 5/10 on stars and was accused of RTA, first pic was an example of a hand he played vs me.

I am indeed doing quite well. I don't play nearly enough, but in some ways that is maybe advantageous because I do study quite a bit and also maybe focus more when I do play.

I grinded up $1500 or something from $100 last winter, then cashed almost all of it out, then did it again in jan - but decided to stop because I wasn't feeling inspired. So I cashed everything out except $10 that time.

A bit later and I felt inspired again and grinded the $10 up, and kept grinding it up. March was a bit of a learning period where I focused on learning 6max. I was feeling more confident with a bit of a bankroll at the end of march and I started playing 200nl+, and at the start of april I realized I would be doing this for the foreseeable future.

Not captured by the stats: 13k in tourney profit. I stopped playing tourneys in either april or may, though.

Honestly I really should put in some more volume. But the good news is I do feel like I am getting better and better with more studying and effort, and though I have been running hot lately I do feel like my competition probably is not putting in enough effort outside of playing to keep up. Also, frankly, words can't explained how bad I ran at 500nl haha. But I'm definitely not gonna sit and complain about things.

Since people seem to be sharing what they're up to these days, I quit poker in spring 2020. Cashed out my bankroll & took any other money I had and threw it into Bitcoin between $5k and $10k. Still hodling & made some $ when alts were pumping.

Made way more money than if I was still just grinding away at poker, and way less stress as well.
