Yo travis, you looking for job/new job? I have a few open positions and having a CS background would help quite a bit. PM me if you want. I can hire remote worker (we based near Raleigh NC)

I don't understand how you would prefer to learn poker from scratch again than work for Microsoft

Agreed with Smuft, PoorUser and PuertoRican. The time and effort you need to put in online poker is just not worth it right now. Also the game gets boring very quickly when you realize it's just not possible to get those double digit winrates anymore (maybe even high single digits) unless you commit you life to the game. And even then, it will just get worse as time goes on. You can see it for yourself but if you believe what I am saying you will probably save 6 months to 1 year of your life. Try something else, there's plenty of opportunity elsewhere. I can't speak for live poker though, only online.

So, unless somehow you know of a site that is incredibly fishy and you will get at least 2+ fish in every table you are better off just not bothering in my honest opinion.

If you can find a nice live spot or get into a good PPP club or whatever it could be a nice side hustle as lostacc said, I would only suggest to not commit too much time and energy to it.

to counter smuft and locoo, if you are going to go down the poker road, stars PA/NJ is the way to do it. a good 200-500nl player is making 100-200k a year on those sites. They are keeping their mouth shut about it. There is enough steady material, I think cfp is low value nowadays.

o well thats where i play

why'd you have to do that

Anyways I already cashed out most of my bankroll. I think I am going to commit to a non-poker lifestyle, it's not very healthy anyways. Tradeoff of health vs money I guess.

just check the site in the morning, afternoon, evening. See how many games are running from 100-500 look at how many fish on avg per table. If the ratio looks good, id suggest at least trying to play semi professionally.

Use weekdays, because thats the most reliable way to see if games are good.

Poker is great if you enjoy the freedom. But it can be stressful and unhealthy if not managed right. And you won't be making that much money unless you're the top 5%. I'm in PA beating low stakes right now and cannot compete with job money long term, but the freedom is great.

I made the mistake of getting back into poker after graduating some years ago. I got into live poker for 2 years and realized it's a dead end. By then the skills I learned in college had rusted and I had to re-learn a lot of it. Programming skills rust fast with new technologies constantly being introduced. Not to mention the gap in resume (my whole resume is a gap) in case I wanted to get a 9 to 5. After live poker I began developing websites for small businesses. Haven't been doing it for long, but I wish I would have gotten into it sooner.

Use your CS skills imo. Forget poker. If you want to be independent and eventually make good money, then start a side business and grow it. There's a lot more money (for skill) in business than there is in poker. People with analytical and risk taking backgrounds are made for it. How skilled do you have to be at poker today to make 100k? Pretty damn skilled. How skilled do you have to be to make 100k in business or in software development? Average people do it all the time, and it doesn't mean having to work at an office.

I dont know what a dt drop is. Is it a wrestling move? -OlyLast edit: 21/12/2020 12:35
