eat normal food again you fucking idiot
was there something wrong with the way you were shitting before?
or at the ripe old age of 21 you thought you needed to dope with gastrointestinal enhancements?
eat chicken and rice until you stop shitting blood and then eat normal without adding fiber just because dr. oz told you to |

why don't you just go to a doctor? If you live in Canada you should have access to healthcare... Canada also has the highest incidence in the world of irritable bowel disease aka ulcerative colitis and crohns (bleeding ulcers in your intestinal tract). Young adulthood is a very common age for onset of these diseases. In other words, bloody diarrhea is not normal, you may need a colonoscopy, and you definitely won't get a diagnosis by asking liquidpoker. |

was the bleeding internal or external? that is, did you bleed because of the poop, or did the poop have blood? if it's the former, who cares. if it's the latter, see a doctor. |

This, if the blood is fresh you probably should tell your boyfriend to take it easy.
if the blood is IN the stool then that can be serious. |

Did you miss the part where the guy can't take a shit like a normal human being and that's why he had to resort to taking a fiber supplement? It didn't just occur to him one day to "enhance" his already normal bowel function. The "normal food" that most people eat in NA is not actually normal food. It's deficient in fiber, hence the constipation. 98% of Americans are actually deficient in fiber. I can guarantee you they eat plenty of white rice and chicken and that's partly why.
Lol @ isolating the fiber as a "villain" in this story. He had an impossibly large, rock hard turd stuck in his colon and probably teared his anus. Because he's fiber deficient. Naturally, he's so used to eating like this that he'll blame the fiber even though it's a lack of fiber that leads to such issues in the first place. OP, I can guarantee you eating a bag of pop corn doesn't mean you have a high fiber diet. If you ate 6 cups of pop corn that's still just like 10% of the RDA...

You mean inflammatory bowel disease. Irritable bowel syndrome is something else. Can confirm that Satan hates us Canadians though, especially me since I have both. Well, in remission anyway. But yeah, it does show up mostly in young adults and if the bleeding becomes chronic, he should definitely see a doctor because it's very likely to be the case. But since he said it has never occurred to him before it's incredibly likely to just be because of constipation. The simple long term solution to that is to slowly increase fiber intake from foods until the problem is gone and you take at the absolute minimum one good shit a day; taking fiber supplements is for old bacon & eggs grannies who can't change their ways. |

I am a committed troll with 19000 posts on a website and it's more likely that OP is part of the 2% who get enough fiber in their diet, despite the fact that he thinks eating a bag of pop corn would provide an objectively high amount of fiber in his diet. Santa's razor.
I'm sure he was never constipated before, we all know that it's an extremely rare condition, especially among fast food eating young adults. It must have just been a rare and awkward moment, metamucil fell from the Heavens and he thought "gee, why not try this to get this rock hard fiber-less poop out?" |

I don't think he spent any time looking inside his stools guys. It can get a bit stressful when you see a ton of blood in the toilet, your first instinct isn't to get some sticks to fish out your turds. It's really the color of the blood that he should have mentioned. The brighter the blood, the least concerning it is. |

Every day, I eat cereal for breakfast. One time, I had a muffin instead, and there was a major earthquake in my city. I've eaten cereal ever since and there's been no earthquake in my city. Santafairy logic has it that I caused the earthquake, it all lines up perfectly.
In all seriousness, if what he says is true, obviously there is likely a connection, but that doesn't make the connection you've made valid/your advice good. The role played by fiber here would be secondary and harmless. It's not like psyllium husk/pop corn contains some evil fiber that brushed away at his bowels until they were bloody. The primary problem is the constipation or whatever else is going on. If it is constipation, reverting to the diet that caused the constipation as a solution is pretty dumb. So is continuing metamucil obviously. |

So, I assumed metamucil was just psyllium husk and should be pretty harmless but after looking it up I learned it also has something called Senna in it which is apparently a strong laxative and bowel irritant. It says to check with your doctor if you have black tarry stools or blood in the stools after use but it doesn't appear to be a common side effect. If you were just sensitive to this stuff it still doesn't explain the pop corn incident. You've not given any details about it though so there's not much to say. If it happens again you should really check with a doctor. They will have a quick look to see if the hemorrhoids are irritated or if there might be a fissure. If you want to avoid the doctor, the best thing you can do is gradually (modestly) increase fiber intake and lubricate your rectum with some type of suppository for that purpose. If it becomes chronic despite this you should get a colonoscopy. |
