Heya all,

Ive made a decision to travel once again. Been to asia, this time im going South America. FUCK YEAHHHH!
The plan right now is to work until about April/may and then when winter starting to kick in in australia, piss off to brazil.

Planning to go for like 6 months.

Thinking to start in brazil, see how I like it there and then go to Colombia or Ecuador. For obvious reasons!
+ Show Spoiler +

Anyone living around those places? I mean i dont have a solid plan yet and may change my mind about the countries.
But Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador are what I have been reading about and it sounds sick.

Ive saved up enough money to spend 6 months on a budget kind of travel.

Anyone out those places?? ANy recommendations?
I am looking to possibly be near the beach so I can learn surfing. But beach is not a must if I really like a place.
Maybe something like Bogota.

I will bring a laptop as well and maybe donate some money to you regs at the tables.

And I have zero spanish knowledge which will be a bit shit but I think I will get away with some sort of app on the phone which will translate shit for me.

FEW MORE MONTHS TO GO!!!! WEWWWW

4 months is quite a lot of time to learn decent spanish or portugese imo. Would do something like memrise or whatever at least.

Random aside:
Last year during an after-fight dinner for one of my coaches, I met this Korean guy who had lived in brazil playing professional soccer and then ended up joining chute boxe (what a boss). Anyway, was me, him and an american guy at the table, and we were speaking in korean/english/portugese/spanish (american speaking english/spanish, me speaking korean/english, korean guy speaking korean/portugese). Most multicultural conversation of my life.

Hm.. Off-suite socks..

Are you travelling by yourself?

As a Latino, I'd never travel to South America for vacation by myself. While there's millions of hot women down there, it's too easy to get robbed, or worse.

Maybe Baal can give his opinion of where to go and where to avoid.

Really guys? Can't be much worse than south east Asia? Drone where do you live now? How is it different?
What about Mexico? I'm reading 2p2 forums and there's people that live and grind in south America and they are fine.

Yeah planning to go by myself.

I'm a white guy in Ecuador right now. Have been to Colombia/Brazil/Panama/Ecuador. What questions you got for me?

I'd avoid Mexico. Traveling solo to South America is perfectly fine--you just have to be smart, do your research, and stay in the nicer areas of cities. Don't walk around with a target on your back, etc. Beautiful countries. Don't know why people go to Europe when there's so much to do in South America (and it's so damn cheap!).

What would be a good place to go that has beach and pricing of accommodation is not that high? And has some nightlife as well.
Can be any of the countries which has swimming weather in June-September say

I live in Bangkok for the past 2 years and there's no comparision, and thailand is not a great example of efficiency

what I think is different, is that nothing works in Brazil, everything takes a long process to solve a simple problem, I went there this summer ( dec/jan ) and it was hell, had problems with internet that never got solved, got problems with my bank, not solved, got problems with electricity, not solved, nobody wants to solve anything, they just send you to the next guy so you give up by tiredness

the most ineffective country ive been to ( have not been in that many countries tho )

everyone tries to hustle you all the time, people will pretend to be helpful to take some advantage of you, even small things like people giving me less change at stores and cutting the line all the time, this shit tilts me so hard

also the violence obviously, I swear that I took like 15 taxis and all 15 were complaining about violence, no exageration here
even if you are in a somewhat decent neighbourhood there's always a crackhead around the corner eyeballing someone and scaring the shit out of them

extending about violence I can say that people are very aggressive in general, even me when I was living there I was aggressive and rude as fuck, everyone is so sweet in asia that gives you so much inner peace

comparing to asia is ridic, I can walk in bangkok 4am and cross the city that im safe, you can't do that in almost any area past 7pm in Brazil, its like minecraft, when it gets dark you lock yourself in your home

the girls are way fatter than when I left, basically 60%+ is obese, you can check tinder to confirm this, but some are very hot, much more variance in girls, most are ugly but sometimes you find some 10's, 13 years old girls look like 20+ so dont go to jail

mipwnya lived there and he loves the country ( also lived in bangkok ) but he was spending 10x the average brazilian, but im not sure if im biased or not, im sure most brazilian people will share the same view as me ( if so every brazilian is biased )

I guess it comes down to money and how much shit you can take and not care about it

I think if you have money to spend you can buy some comfort and safety and it can be fun

that said I think its perfectly fine to go to travel there for a few weeks esp because when you go for a few weeks you dont mind spending a bit more

Wow that sounds like doom and gloom. Yeah I'm pretty set on south America. I just want to experience the lifestyle a bit. This is a culture I don't know much about. Just have to be careful I guess. Are you native Brazilian drone?

What's a nice medium size city in Brazil that is not rio or sao paolo that has some nightlife and warm in june?

@drone666 thanks for sharing that, I always wanted to visit Brazil

what about Chile and Uruguay ... tbh those were first on my wish list (and Argentina probably)

@spets1 you might not want to answer on this one but how much on average do you expect that trip like this (monthly) will cost you ?

Montana or Salinas, Ecuador. Very cheap and amazingly beautiful beaches. Montana also is known as a party town -- it just so happens to have some of the prettiest beaches in the world.

You would have a blast for 1,000-1,500/month in either areas. If you're going let me know. My gf is from Ecuador and her family goes to Montana/Salinas all the time.

damn man, you going to Brazil in the winter? I think you'll have to stick with Rio then, I was about to say Floripa, for me is by far the best city in Brazil with dozens of different beaches around and with a good structure and the hottest girls, but it's nice only in the Brazilian summer, winter is rainy and cold

you can also go somewhere in the northeast but the girls are a bit uglier and darker there if you don't mind, super cheap region

you can always use tinder and find some bitches to show you around, Brazilian bitches love foreigners and tinder in Brazil is great, just make sure they are not hustlers

and yea I'm a native brazilian

Yeah brazil sounds like less and less of a goer and im leaning more towards Ecuador and Colombia. Unless there are nice North East places you could recommend?

'Don't die in Brazil' is way over the top. You'll have a lot of fun in Brazil, spets. Just avoid walking around in weird places after it gets dark and you'll be fine. South America is a fantastic place to travel around, there is so much to see and great people to meet.

Brazil is huge. The regions (north south northeast southeast) are very different from one another so you have to chose what do you want to see in Brazil. You can go to the Amazon and have a great time and it will be an entirely different experience than going to a more popular place such as Rio. If you just want to party then Rio/Sao Paulo/Salvador/Belo Horizonte are probably the places to go.

it doesnt need to be a party place, I might just tinder it up. When i was in philippines i spent over a month in davao where it felt like i was the only white person on the streets. And most forums advised not to go there because people get kidnapped there sometimes. There was no nightclubs or anything and I still enjoyed it. Massive thanks to Whamm and BILAT of course! Massive shoutout to them for showing me around. BILAT (the one you like so much!!) where are you????

Just looked up youtube videos of salinas and it seems way too touristy for me.
Maybe do something like davao again. Start of a trip in no mans land. Where there are almost no tourists. And then decide from there.

Main one for me is the weather. So that I can walk around in Tshirt and shorts day and night.

I have also started to learn spanish from audio courses and an app i downloaded. And its easier than I thought, which is awesome, so I will have some basics by the time I go. So Spanish speaking country seems like the best idea. Ecuador or Colombia are top two at this stage for me.
