How long did this take/what stakes? why not move up if your bankroll can support it?

Is that 1.2 million hands? That is a lot of hands. With current info I suggest moving up. $3,000 is plenty for shots at .5/1. $5,000 is good amount for shots at 1/2. $3,000 is enough for 1/2 if you know the game is good. Just remember to be honest. I hit a point one time where there was always a rationalization that the game was either good or it was a good education. While that may have been true it does not mean the bankroll will support that especially when some (sick) tilt gets involved. Going busto 101.

Thanx PR.

I'm a full time IT analyst so I only play short sessions (1-2 hours) inconsistently with less than 4 tables. I realized I make better decisions playing this way and enjoy it more vs cramming down hands with more than 12 tables running in these short sessions and usually end up break even. I didn't enjoy it.

The last 200k hands roughly took few months, I play recreationally and only when I feel like it.

I usually would only play a stake when I have 80+ buy ins because this doesn't make me feel bad if I lose 2+ buy ins or so compared to when I started, moving up when I have 25+ buy ins and would get them feels (I'm the worse, never playing again, fuck poker, I can't make it) if I lose a couple of buy ins.

If the normal game was .5/1 and the shot is at 1/2 I would say 2 buyins. That is cutting it close and with confidence in one's game and state of mind. This isn't just sit with a bunch of regs. This is games are GOOD. Mathematics of Poker has some really good bankroll management stuff. Revolutionized my game at the time. We should be looking to kelly bet which is impossible in poker but with honest guesswork in winrate and variance it can get pretty accurate and can allow for the bankroll to really grow optimally. I remember there was 1 guy I used to play heads up at 3/6 plo that was pretty much the best game I could ever play even when rolled for good 25/50 plo games.

Just take shots when you feel comfortable, it will be different for everyone I guess.

you're never going to feel comfortable taking shots, it's gonna be stressful at first even if you have 100 buy ins

Sure up to 50nl 15bi shots are okay, after that if its a new level for him that's just a pure suicide. And yeah you ll always feel pressure even if your bankroll is at 100bi, except that you won't have the additional pressure knowing you have to drop down every time you get on the wrong side of a setup and won't have to think about it 24/7 playing scared money.
Sure if you are that certain that you will absolutely be able to play your A game with 15bi roll then go ahead and do it and that's actually really impressive to have such a strong mental game, however, that's a terrible advice to give to the rest 95% of people. Especially to someone that looks like he s on the other end of the extreme, not moving up even at 30-40bi.

Best advice ever given to me is to not take shots at a limit but just move onto it, meaning I should be able to sustain an average bad run without moving down, average bad run in my expectations is like 30-40k hands. I've seen tons of people that are very solid winners @ 200-600nl sustaining 100bi downswings, not because they started sucking or because the games improved too much so they became losers, they just had a 100bi downswing. First 1-2 guys, I thought were either lying or just being bad, however, all of them are still winners to this day, then last year November/December/January I sustained a slightly softer, but still a downswing I believed to be impossible unless you suck at the game. So such huge downswings could happen and that's I why believe a 15bi shot is just a hilarious thing to even think about.
