Holy (!@$, talk about doing stuff that's on the edge of the death.

Skydiver Luke Aikins made a 8km / 25,000 feet jump with NO PARACHUTE:

Pretty epic tbh. Honestly when I first heard about this I assumed it was someone in a wing suit that was going to flare at last second and splash down in water. Is that less viable than this?

I just saved a bunch of money on my car insurance, by running away from the scene of an accident.

Like not flare and try and slow down enough but I mean go into a stall upwards near the water. I dunno if I'm making sense

I mean you could take a parachute with you when leaving the airplane and just not use it if you were sure you could hit the net

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

I read an article talking about how the sponsors were trying to make him wear a parachute but he didn't want to because it hurt him when he landed and then sponsors agreed at the last second. If you notice right at the end he flips over onto his back as he hits the net, I guess the parachute would be on his back and would add some impact on landing.

i have no experience whatsoever in skydiving but i got curious on how he could drive himself toward the huge net. anyone who's done it before can explain how hard/easy is it to have a decent control of your landing spot?

well this guy supposedly has made more than 18000 jumps so he was certainly experienced :D

that is an absolutely ridiculous amount tbh. like 1.7 jumps per day for 30 years-ish. sick life lol.

For championship of precise landing they have to hit a 10cm^2 spot with their feet, so hitting a 50-100m^2 net should be super simple, even without parachute deployed.

Thats impossible, wing suits bring you to about half of your normal fall rate. Half of terminal velocity is still death

Better be jumping off the plane close to the correct spot, i wonder if he was too far off if he coulda linked up with one of the other divers with a couple caribbeaners and bailed out.

yeah but being precise on a parachute is much easier, they can control it, turn, change the speed etc, being that precise on freerall is much difficult.

Actually you can see he was nowhere near the center of the net

ive read that even with him being a very experienced diver hitting the net was around 50%

that has to be bullshit, there is no way he would flip for his life and get his sponsors to agree with it

I highly doubt Felix Baumgartner's chances were that high.
