You have to remember that he views everything through the lense of Christianity. Adultery is not permitted and neither is premarital sex. A friend to him is someone you can be happy to have a Platonic relationship with, not someone you would like to fuck.
Outside of that, it's very common to have friendships with benefits go sour because one person develops feelings for the other which aren't reciprocated. But yeah, they don't necessarily conflict with each other if both parties are on the same level.

To be honest, I do think being close real friends with a woman and saying you would not have sex with them is a lie, is what Harvey was saying.
I have never had a woman who I spent my premeditated free one on one time with who I wouldn't have sex with...... why would I? Order of priorities in life man.
A friend is someone you respect and find enjoyable to be around. You can be friend with a guy and not want to fuck him and so you can aswell be friend with a woman that you either want or not want to fuck. You can also want to fuck someone but that person might piss you off to no end and you could never be friends.
What confuses people about this matter is the attitude of the douchebags who can't accept a person is not interested in them and rather stay around them and pretend to be friends. But that's silly and immature, a grown man would never accept for himself such a waste of time and energy.

Ok, so let's say you want to have sex with her, don't most guys want to have sex with every good looking or otherwise attractive woman? There's a big degree of immaturity in your post, like you can't spend free one on one time because it has to be sex. You can still feel that way and be good friends, if you truly are looking for a female friend and value their female energy.
You could say it's an inefficient way to spend time, it sounds like that's what you mean. Perhaps you would rather spend it with male friends or always be developing relationships (with men) to further you in business or to see eye to eye with men you respect to improve yourself. Male bonding and all that. I understand that position, if that's how you want to lead your life sure, but I don't agree. Women also have value and truly understanding them furthers you in your intimate personal relationships, your “priority”. Typically that needs to be one on one for both of you to feel comfortable. I'm not saying you need to spend the majority of your social life with them but spending no time or thinking you're unable to is simply wrong imo. The only time I'll agree it's wrong is if you're a total degenerate.
Personally, I don't think they get in the way of your priorities, unless you can't handle it. You still need to have a social life. In my opinion, it's a test of strength and character, can you be trusted in those situations? Do you trust yourself? It is undoubtedly playing with fire but so are a lot of things in real life. Personally, I really enjoy the company of women, even though I'm in a committed relationship. One thing I find is that it is often harder to get women to open up to you, especially if you're unavailable because they just don't see it as possible, they think they have limited time or think that you have a hidden agenda or ill intentions. Imo, it's obvious that anyone you want to be friends with you are attracted to on some level. Doesn't mean you're gay or that you'll cheat on your partner but there is a sort of character barrier you need to conquer there in my opinion -- to be able to handle it and to respect your priorities enough to say no or just to say what it is you want. At the same time, if a woman doesn't get that and you're spoken for, you probably need to bail.

Yo ggplz, nice post. I kinda think your post sums it up though, it took a long time for you to explain the male-female dynamic, yet it still is kind of hard to explain ! Don't get me wrong, I hang around women all the time in my life, and always will. Growing up I did boys with girls swim team for 10 years year round, I was friends with most all of them, I would just sit around with a woman sometimes at a meet and hang and not feel anything sexual. I also now spend time around women in some way or another, whether it be my friends wives, or my friends of friends who are single.
Still, I see nothing wrong in saying that it is OK for a man to simply not be interested in an intimate platonic relationship with a woman. We really are different. If I like a woman enough to spend time with her over one of my best friends, than why wouldn't I want to simply date that woman?
I think this issue also leaves a bit of room for respect to differences in personalities and such. So if other people are totally great with platonic relationships, I don't think thats bad or a lie. I simply have never felt that way in my life so far.
On a personal level, I have gone through many changes in order to be more aware of what is happening in my body, and to do everything consciously, I think a lot and talk a lot about things if they don't make sense. This was a subject that came up for me, as spending one on one time with a woman would always lead me to feel an energy pull in my pubic area, if I just relaxed and scanned my body. This became annoying to me, as I wanted to be "mature" and be able to have these friendships with women that are just as strong as ones with men. However, after talking with people more wiser than myself thoroughly about this happening for me, they just say "why force this?". Sometimes it is ok to transcend nature and the way you feel and just be conscious of a feeling and move on with life. Other times it is ok to acknowledge that this is simply what happens at this time in life.
Also, I would like to add that my definition of "friend" in this conversation is of a very higher level. Like as in top 3 friends, and one is a girl. Maybe some people are built that way and I don't judge them, but I am not built that way and I don't think I should be judged either : )
