Rake vs Effective Rake

I'm seeing so many misunderstandings among the greater community, and yet smaller discussion among smaller groups are sometimes more effective.

Rake we think of as the % of monies rake from a pot or a buy-in etc.

EFFECTIVE rake is the overall monies that leaves the players to 3rd parties. In regards to recent changes on PS, pulling out the rakeback schemes doesn't affect "rake" as a % but it DOES raise the EFFECTIVE RAKE.

I'm sure we can intuitively understand this, however I think its important that we have words, definitions and divisions to describe this and communicate it as a group.

One of the reasons its so important can be highlighted in regards to something Ansky said on the JoeyChicago Podcast. Ansky incorrectly tried to separate the issues of banning huds with taking away much of the Rake Back scheme. Ansky wanted to argue they aren't comparable issues but he is simply ignorant to effective rake.

When you ban huds you raise effective rake for the pro and thus the players should demand and expect a rake % reduction otherwise they are being offered a lower quality product for the same price.

No, rather I am expecting players to disagree and argue, thats the response I'm looking for. I couldn't care less if I am hero or not. I invented "effective rake", who will argue!?
