Indeed. Wait, what?

Raising preflop more than 10% is somewhat wild. 5% is average. Less than 3% is passive.

Is there a collection of videos of ppl doing the same stuff but falling to their deaths? I'm kinda curious

My favourite line is Bet/Fold. I bet, you fold.

I'm not entirely convinced that it's not cheap thrills. Sure it's the best thing in their lives, but a heroin addict will tell you the same about heroin. I remember reading about this in a Finnish newspaper some years ago, in Russia there's a whole subculture of young people who refuse alcohol and do stunts like these (kinda like straight edge, except that instead of fighting they do this). I couldn't help but wonder if getting drunk with alcohol instead of adrenalin was after all the more healthy choice.

It's not that hard to pull it off. Unless you're afraid of heights. I've done more stupid than this when I was younger. But now I don't feel the need to prove anything by doing that. It's their way of life just let them do whatever the fuck they want. If they're confident, then they're nothing wrong with that. Either way it's way better than getting addicted to drugs.

They should build public structures far away from the crowded cities for these guys, just like skate parks, but only for suicidal morons just so that they don't hurt anybody else physically and otherwise.

Believe what you want but I won't do any stupid shit anymore. You also have to consider the older you get the less bolder you will be. It's a fact.
I may have exaggerated about doing the same shit but doing something more stupid ? Hell yes. I'm glad I've survived though.

I just read it. Interesting read, I'm still not sure of what the story's main allegory is. It should have to do with a sarcastic take on the artistic world in general. I suppose the parallel you make to the russian daredevils has to do with the hunger artist's final words that he shouldn't be admired because in reality he just couldn't find food that he enjoyed (so he had no choice)? I'm not really sure of the analogy here.

Sorry, I forgot about this thread. Yes, I was thinking about his last words. Essentially, while some people might think what he's doing is really hard and brave, and that it's a genuine challenge for him, in reality, and because of his nature, it was easy for him to do. In the same way, to the normal person it might look like those daredevils are overcoming their fear of death, but in reality, it may simply be that they are anomalies and don't have one. Just a thought.

fuck I should just sell some of my Pokemon cards, if no one stakes that is what I will have to do - lostaccountLast edit: 15/09/2015 02:48

no actually I don't think mr. Maddison is amazing, and I'm generally not that impressed by people who do insanely dangerous yet ultimately pointless things, for example mountaineers who climb Everest (mortality risk on single climb being about 10%). I don't think such people are idiots (I met one Everest climber once, seemed pretty high IQ) or attention whores, but they surely are not balanced people with healthy life goals imo. Sure everyone plays with his own money as he pleases but I maintain that cheap thrills (or actually too expensive thrills) is what it comes down to. Youtube videos of these stunts are more fun to watch than watching someone shoot up heroin, and probably the stunts have utility for signalling purposes in mating unlike drug addiction, but those are probably the only advantages over heroin I'm willing to admit.

to clarify I think that dangerous stunts that are instrumental in reaching something useful (e.g. money) are not really a sign of a unbalanced person with unhealthy life goals, even if those stunts are as such arbitrary and pointless. On the other hand stunts whose only value is the adrenalin are about cheap thrills.

this was amazing to me.

im quite sure these guys don't do risk assestment.

one of them most likely worked on rooftops or has been up high his whole life, if u spend the majority of ur time up in the air like this, then this would be a much more comfortable thing to do.

to me it seems like they are just normal guys havin fun, prolly went super safe at first and saw no fear and took off the harnesses n restraints

RaiZ   France. Sep 18 2015 19:53. Posts 1503

Pretty sure they didn't put restraints or harness or anything when they first started doing this. It's just something you can do on the whim (not sure of the word) simply because you have enough confidence.

Everytying is pointless, dangerous or not, what is a healthy life goal? get a fucking job, raise some kids and rot in the ground like everyone else?

There no such things as life goals.. the only goal in life is to be happy and if possible help others be happy too.

Its ridiculous to believe that if they get money out of it its not a sign of an imbalanced mind but if they dont get money they are unbalanced, that is only indicative of maybe how business smart they are or how money driven.

I race cars and its very dangerous too (I nearly kill myself once) I dont do it because its a chip thrill, and I dont think im imbalanced, I do it because I love the feeling, to handle the car as fast as you can pushing your own fear to its limits, the concentration etc, nothing matches that, and its probably how mountain climbers feel on the summit too and its kind of sad that you dont understand nor know this feeling.

There are a couple of relevant quotes there (besides the beautiful video), that woman at the beginning is the wife of a dead driver, somehow how got what I mean.

the russian daredevils are doing it for the pure attention whoreness factor (yeah I just made that a word)

people like the motocross guy doing that insane jump and you doing rally are completely different imo for the reasons you just listed as to why you race rally. you are doing it purely for the love

these russians are brainless idiots that do this to impress people and get more instagram followers. maybe I'm not understanding your point but I see a clear difference between what they're doing and what the motocross guy does...

online bob is actually a pretty smart person, not at all like the creepy fucker that sits in the sofa telling me he does nasty shit to me when im asleep - pinball
