Listen to this - pornstar duke student with a feminist stance, who was e.g. on The View. This one's way more fun tho

it is a good thing to have and of course sexual abuse towards males exists, it was just a funny comment to make given the context of the discussion.

to be honest i haven't thought much about the morality of porn or objectifying women in general, but sex is such a basic part of our nature i don't see why focusing on/promoting that aspect of a person would be a bad thing? the porn industry surely has issues creating an environment conducive to exploitation like stroggoz mentioned (differentiating exploitation from objectification here) but i don't think it's that obvious that getting rid of it wouldn't create more dilemmas than it would solve. like there's some chance the girl in the last porn you watched is a drug addict whose habit you're contributing to by 0.000001%, on the other hand you didn't stab your boss/girlfriend/whoever out of frustration. i think this is getting away from your OP about objectifying women but it's hard for me to see anything inherently wrong about that so i don't know how to respond.

Yea because you know.. those men don't treat their cars like gods and take better care of them then they do of themselves. It's not men objectifying women lol, it's men humanizing (is that a word?) objects.

Men do not name their tools, cars, or computers.

Even if they did, that would be anthropomorphizing the tools, not objectifying some imaginary woman

You can count on one hand the artifacts in English that sometimes people use female pronouns to refer to, like boats. And I'm sure women rich enough to have their own fucking boats would do that just as often. Please don't buy into "feminist linguistics" ("history" or "mankind" too sexist for you?) - take a 5 second look at any language that has grammatical gender. Seriously, try going dildo shopping. Do you think there aren't women naming their dildos? They even come (as it were) pre-named.

seriously exactly what were you thinking here? Calling a car beautiful is objectifying? Objectifying what, the living, breathing car?

It seems to be not very profitable in the long run to play those kind of hands. - Gus Hansen

Good points, but there is a lot to do with possession and a lot of cultural traditions that compare chattel with women that have a direct influence in our language.

I think it's positive that we acknowledge that violence is bad for everyone and we should try to break the vicious circle. What's really bad in my opinion is that we hear mostly tragic and shocking news of people being abused or killed that we become to accept violence as part of our society way more than we should. People aren't inherently evil but too many times I argued with someone else who thinks the opposite.

lol come off it.

so are all romance languages and many germanic languages misogynists and objectifiers now because they arbitrarily assigned the female gender to half of the words?

They're not being coerced or trapped. Millions of people face the same situations and choose different paths. Pornstars choose to exploit their own sexuality for profit, it's that simple. No old dark man is out there choosing for them. There's a narrative for each pornstar's decision to start doing porn. Sometimes they may feel degraded but at the end of the day it's just a performance and doesn't actually degrade them in any way. That's a really tough reality pornstars HAVE to be ok with. Even the most hardcore porn isn't degrading although if those acts were carried out without a contract, prior consent and knowledge of the acts then perhaps you might be able to judge the situation dynamically and say it probably feels degrading. The reality is that in every porn shoot the performers know exactly what kind of shoot they're doing, what sexual acts they'll perform and express what they don't want to happen prior. In more hardcore bondage or gangbang scenes women are often interviewed and asked if they're ok with certain things first (on camera) and they do say no to things they aren't ok with. However, they're obviously ok with some acts otherwise they wouldn't be in a bondage shoot. But, it's hard to shoot bondage without degrading someone, right? lol. If you define degrading as causing loss of self-respect then there's an impenetrable barrier the pornstar (them-self) always has especially given their contract, pre-approved acts and partners etc. If you decide to take a definition of degrade and twist it to be an objective truth whereby the mere reputation of being a pornstar is enough to say they're degraded then you're flat out wrong. It's an internal, psychological process. Is it hard psychologically? Definitely can be. There's a sort of invisible barrier there I'd call professionalism that people aren't able to see. What actually goes on inside a pornstar's head? It's a mixed bag and they're people too.. maybe we should start treating them with the respect they deserve and ask them without our own agendas?

Really interesting, thanks. Holy crap Howard Stern asked some really blunt questions, haha. RiKD watch this and ask yourself if she's being exploited for going after what she wants (a college education) and facing the economic reality headon while outspokenly admitting that she loves her life, despite the negative public stigma.

In part, the new feminism can be seen as mission creep: an old movement looking for a new role now that its original aims have largely been achieved. This would explain why it is so obsessed with culture, with how people think and speak and with what words they use or images they view. Having achieved equality in the legal and work spheres, some feminists are now moving into the realms of culture and even thought, where their politics, or any politics for that matter, has no place. The end result is often intolerance, a demand not only that society remove all the barriers to women’s engagement in public life — which is a good demand — but also that people and art and culture think about and depict women in a particular, ‘correct’ way, which is an illiberal demand.

I thought of a poem about my trip to LA Fitness today:

Bad bitches everywhere
The place was packed with pretty pussy

How bout this?:

"Hey girlll... I like dat ass and dat outfit and would like to get to know you a bit better... (I would like to get to know dat ass outside of dat outfit reverse cowgirl whooo! Ohhh, my bad, I meant) let's get to that (new hipster) spot (all the 20 somethings are into) next Wednesday and break some bread and have some conversations."

I think I re-found one of those short term cures for depression though:

1/2 bar chocolate
2 strong coffees
2 monsters
l-tyrosine
vit d
fish oil

gym when all the bad bitches on instagram straight flexin

Oh shit though, it only works until it doesn't. Fuck I'll be at 2 bars chocolate, 4 strong coffees, 2 monsters, 2 l-tyrosines by next week? Shiiieeettt...

Oh well...

Bad bitches are human beings too! With hearts, and brains, and souls, and spirit! Breakthrough! Swish!

True. At this point in time I do not think I am really making contentions on anything. Just trying to engage, discuss, possibly learn something.

I don't know.

It goes to a general question/comment that from my experiences most 18 yr olds are pretty easy prey for predatory adults. That goes for military recruitment, that goes for porn, that goes for anything really.

Yeah. It is tricky. How does one define degrading? I don't know at this moment.

Yeah, it would be interesting to make a documentary on what actually goes on inside a pornstar's head. Interesting but not likely. My agenda is peace, love, tolerance, truth, kindness. That is always my desired intentions and most times will be my honest intentions as long as I am spiritually and emotionally fit.

Yeah, definitely interesting. Have to give credit to Howard for being such an awesome interviewer.

I do not think that Belle Knox in particular is being super exploited. She seems really sharp for her age. She did mention for people out there to be really careful when looking to get in the industry and that on multiple occasions people have attempted to manipulate her into doing scenes she did not want to do.

Does anyone think a strong minded, independent, sharp Duke student going for a civil rights law occupation is an average representation of 18 yr olds going into porn?

Good question. I don't know.

Honestly, as long as people don't act out on fucked up thoughts they are probably ok?

If they become bothersome enough and/or unmanageable it is time to seek outside help?

She's being exploited to the extent that she's openly comfortable and happy with exploiting her own sexually. If you can call that exploiting, ok, but it's not degrading as she's totally okay with it. Imo she came across as more of a strong voice for women in the industry, as she said sex workers are coming up to her and thanking her or w/e. Sure, there are women that do 1 scene and end up regretting it or that find out they hate it and that's unfortunate.

Legally, yeah. He does have a point there though as a lot of 18 year olds, despite being legal, aren't ready to make this kind of decision imo but it just depends as a lot totally are. All the more reason to create and maintain strong bonds with your children so they can come to you for help and advice on even the most difficult subjects and in times of need.
