How do you improve hand reading?

I was wondering of what people do to improve their hand reading.

Especially when playing live, I have trouble thinking about ranges and calculations.
I always think about hands that beat me, and cannot do a breakdown properly.

So what would be the best way to approach my problem?
All I can think of is reading through other hands on forums and analyzing my own hands after play.

All suggestions are welcome.

punch in spots in equilab. Punch in what you think villains ranges are in certain spots like for ex. when villain check raises certain turns. What hands do you think he does this with etc based on stats/reads whatever info you have. Also knowing what your ranges look like in spots helps to understand a bit what villains ranges may look like.

pay attention to all the times someone has the unreal nuts and just checks it back without trying to make any money

look for all the times where people have a near sure winner but make a very small bet

when someone shows down a bluff make note of his/her betsizing

you can also study "the AKQ game" if you haven't; it's basicly a poker game with a 3 card deck and one round (actually half a round) of betting and the biggest cards wins. In that game it turns out that betting with a king doesn't make sense because your opponent will correctly fold a Q (since he cant beat anything) or correctly beat you with an A (since he cant fear anything). It turns out that people, even recreational players, mimic this behavior very often; they try to reach the showdown with their middling, weak but not hopeless hands, they bluff with their hopeless hands and valuebet with the nuts. Try to seek out a casual player who has a pair but "turns it into a bluff" by calling first and later when the board changes (and that pair is now the worst hand he can have) bluff with it. You will have a hard time finding them because many casual players never do that

look for how people play their draws, and if they are afraid to slowplay when you might have a draw

try to gauge their personality; are they betting their stronger hands because they are afraid of suckouts? Are they doing it because they want to win a bigger pot? Or do they check their strong hands to deceive you? etc etc basicly pay attention

if you are in the habit of always putting people on whatever beats you review your hands afterwards and ask yourself if they could really have that and which other hands they could have

Hmmm,

I was just thinking I could write a really long, elaborate post on this with examples and experiences but now I am like eh...

It boils down to play a lot and pay attention.

Pay attention to everything. Anything. Everything.

Some things so many people do. Other people are wonky and do some weird things. Figure out what each person is doing and why.
