this is my buddy's hand and he wants opinions on river. I already explained to him pre is terrible as well as flop so no need really to pile it on fellas.

Live 1-1-2 nl

UTG (friend) $200
MP $200
LP $200
Button $200
SB $200

My boy is either UTG or UTG+1 and either opens for 4 or calls an open to 4 with 53 (I hope at least suited but not sure lol), MP calls, LP calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB probably calls not sure

Flop A42 either one or two spades (pot $18)

Everybody Checks

Turn A425 (pot $18) the 5 is either a spade or if there were already 2 spades on the flop then it was a brick 5 but on the turn the board is A425 with 2 spades.

everybody checks to the button who bets 8, SB calls 8, UTG (my friend) raises to 28, Button calls, Sb i think folds but he may have called (if he did call turn he folded to button's river bet. I know it is important to know whether he called turn because if he calls turn it makes river a little harder for button to bluff or something).

River Ac4d2s5s4s (pot $74) river is the 4s pairing the board and bringing in the flush.

UTG checks, Button bets 60, UTG ?

I know my boy played it like shit but should he be calling the river. I told him no since a ton of button's turn bet/calling range obviously hits that river; spades(especially on the 4 straight board or boats like 45 and he is not betting worse for value. So what air bet calls turn; 67? not much. Does he turn an ace or chop into a bluff? Button in this hand was a young white male who he said seemed to be good.

are these hand histories I am writing out even decently readable? If not I could do something different or won't waste the time

Shouldn't even be reaching this spot. This is a pretty easy bet/bet/bet. Don't like how small he made the turn raise either.

Yes agreed on all points however I stated clearly in the OP I have already communicated this to him and I only have one question here. If you got teleported into my friend's body after he checked river and found yourself playing this poker hand, what do you do facing this 60 dollar bet.

fold but if I were you I'd refuse to give your friend advice as not to encourage him at all haha

My logic is it's basically a limped pot, everyone got to the river super cheap, the board is dripping wet, and a player who hasn't showed any aggression yet in the hand fires pot into your boy.

This is a reverse HH. Don't usually do this but the play was so bad up to the river I had to say it was my boy's hand otherwise it either wouldn't be believable or everyone would just call me a fish without answering the question lol.

Anyways I was button with 76o. Thought I had great implied on the turn call (brick 8 I stack him always) and planned to bluff spades. My only bet/call range on the turn as played is 76, 45, 55, spades basically so this was the perfect River to fire and bluffing 76 here balances me out. 16 76 combos to bluff with should balance out just about all my flush vbets.

The player also sat full, older white guy, was waiting for 3/5. Didn't have much to go on at this point figures he was one of the tighter ones. He was also clearly pissed at River and did the give up/check down check. At the last second instead of tossing in his cards he like pulled them back just as they were bout to cross the line and threw out a dub chip for the call.

I snap throw down my hand cause that's my pet peeve when ppl get called and don't show and waste time. I wanted to see his hand to see what went with the 3 so didn't auto muck when called. The dealer and table start explaining to me that I don't have a straight (as though I'm the huge fish) and I just nod my head and laugh and say thanks guys. Lol

lol @ all the "may have calleds"

your play is good, it's pretty much a mandatory bluff on river since our range is so nutty etc. i like the sizing too.

Disagree the bluff is good here, I think your leveling yourself against average 1 2 person. It would have worked against me however so grats xD

Its a horrible river bet vs a player type who would check raise turn with his hand

He puts hero on a straight doesn't expect hero to ever fold straight so it isnt a bluff

edit: this is what i wrote before reading comments. so i think it should be a great spot to bluff but since people at these stakes in live games hate folding straights doesn't seem good in practice

He said if he hadn't of flopped the nuts he would of been able to fold it but after flopping and slow playing he told himself he wasn't folding no matter what and stuck to it lol. Obviously my read on the guy was off, thought he might have been a winning player at the time, had barely played with him and orbit and he was in our game waiting for a seat in a bigger game

i don't think over-adjusting to perceived fish weakness is a good approach. like, we're gonna have over 70% nuts here, betting is always gonna be a winning play. essentially we COULD be like "ok, we are literally never bluffing, because he's never folding," but how well do we really know this guy in order to make ourselves super exploitable by not bluffing when we clearly should? seems like a "win a little if we're right, lose a lot if we're wrong," not worth it.

yea I hear that Fira; I bluff river vs anyone here tbh. Only real question is the size. At least 60 vs most people maybe 40 to some. Fair amount of overbets here is good too- considered it here and it would have worked. He is capped pretty much i'm not.
