Surprised there is no topic about yet, this is the hottest news in last 48h.

Basically, a man takes 17 people hostage in a cafe in Sydney, holds them for 16h before police storms the building. Three people dead (2 hostages + the kidnapper). "Monis was an Iranian cleric on bail for a string of violent offences, including being an accessory to the murder of his wife"

The ruble tumbling 9.1% today to 64.0005, the most since crisis of 1998. Combine that with OIL in a freefall and you get a nasty scenario for Russia, home to 135 mil people. I'd say that tops the list actually.

The fact that a lunatic who decides to do something like this gets heavy news coverage only serves to encourage more of it. Why do you think he put that flag in the window? Without the flag only the victims might have a clue as to why he did it but now it's seem as a victory for radical islam extremists and instils irrational fear into people. I don't mean to downplay the situation the victims were in but I can't change 1 fucking thing about it and what's left for us to think about? Violence, radical ideology, some guys problems, gun laws(lol)? There are far more interesting things. I'd rate this on about the same interest level as a story about Kim Kardashian's new handbag.

if poker is dangerous to them i would rank sports betting as a Kodiak grizzly bear who smells blood after you just threw a javelin into his cub - RaiNKhAN

First time I read about that, I thought the city was under siege, not a fucking hostage situation. Fucking clickbate tactics right there.

@cariadon The ruble falling can help out the Russian economy, but they rely more so on nat gas instead of oil.

Very interested in your reasoning behind that statement as it is the most false thing i've read in quite some time and only good amusement can come of it.

Last night the Russian Government raised interest rates to 17%. Maybe you know something everyone else doesn't.

Sharpen your keyboard for google and get going with your "research as to why what you said was right" after actually saying it because nowadays you can say anything and back it up with "research" right? That's your style thus far and i'm expecting nothing less than a stellar performance this time. Forever dark side of the moon - Gnarly.

Good thing my city is in lockdown red alert status and anyone wearing pajamas with a beard almost gets a spotlight everywhere they go. There was a bus bombing here last week killed about 20 students, zero fucks given by clerics and shit. People in media here trying to act like who and why did this Islamic rebel group do this but when theyre eating dinner with family im pretty sure they know its allahs will and most of them are good people anyway lol

i actually didn't know they raised rates. either way, a dollar is worth 60 rubles, which is pretty fucking cheap.

Apparently some sort of fecal matter has hit the rotating part of an air conditioner as it is even worse today.

part of me thinks it's just a feigned weakness. russia threatening war, again, and cutting trading? idk... i've always felt the cold war was never really about america v russia, but how both of them could keep being top dogs. (as in they were working together in some sense) then again, i also see a lot of possible reasons behind a lot of symbols

either way, i would feel that china would seize some things if russia really did act on their word.

i think Saudi Arabia can control OPEC . The West is already imposing deep economic sanctions. By having our allies, Saudi Arabia lower the price of oil, this is causing the only valuable Russian export to become not so valuable. This is the cause for the drop in the Ruble. By raising inflation rates is an attempt to stabilize the ruble collapse, but that isn't even working.

Now, the United States is becoming buddy buddy with Iran and Cuba, it's just a matter of time before the Big Red Bear goes into hibernation.
