+1 on fooled by randomness

also "The Black Swan" by the same author

intense books (at least for me) specializing in thinking probabilistically

and "The Signal and the Noise" by Nate Silver

much easier read than Taleb's books imo, more on the subject of sorting/understanding data in a smarter way

this guy also used to be an online pro (pretty sure we played in the same party limit hold 'em games ~10 years ago)

Kindle is great yeah. You can convert book extensions (and make your own library) with Calibre. Kindle generally uses .mobi (iirc) and when you download a bunch of .epub books (torrent or legally), you can easily convert them using that program.

lol'd @ amazon bestsellers 2014 list. +1 on goodreads though, it's very useful and should motivate you to read more if you are new to it.

Here's what you want OP:

Personally, I don't look for ebooks too much anymore. Not because I dislike reading on a Kindle, I feel fine doing so, but I feel like it's harder to take the time to read downloaded content instead of books that were physically purchased or rented. As an extreme example I know that some people like my brother just get a kick out of downloading a lot of shit-- it's more enjoyable for them to download/accumulate a bunch of content than it is to read/watch it. It's well documented that psychologically, we do far better when we have less options than many. Having access to so much on the internet makes it hard to know what to spend a lot of time reading and might end up making you read without much focus, a little bit here and there, or nothing at all.

That actually sounds really true, and like me, but i was just trying to figure out if there was out there some website that was indexing ebooks and pdf, and if it worth buying a kindle for those or not. but what you are referencing to already happend to me and i might keep sticking to the library card.

Got put off Taleb for a long time by reading the first couple chapters of Fooled by Randomness. Seemed like a guy who is talking about what should be obvious to any experienced poker player but in a self-indulgent, arrogant and condescending way.

Luckily I gave him a second shot reading his latest one Antifragile and found that to be a lot better (though still pretty self-indulgent)

EDIT: thanks for the pdf link of fooled by randomness, somehow i'm enjoying it much more this time around
