Anyone like Josh Thompson at +170?
Can't decide how much of him vs Gil was him looking good and Gil looking bad, and how much of Nate vs Bendo was Nate looking bad and how much was Bendo looking great.
Thompson is pretty good at using the entire striking arsenal, which means lots of kicks. Not really powerful ones, but they score points. He's got pretty good movement as well, and should have a wrestling advantage and is a good BJJ blackbelt as well.
Hrm.

Got a Mir fan at the gym to go 1:1 on $100. Cormier is going to shit on Mir.
If you see him early enough on Friday, figure out a way to get him to watch the weigh-ins.
Once he sees the size difference and Cormier's body type, he'll want to bet more on Mir.

I have $40 on him already. Gonna wait and see what his prop bet will be, to win via decision. He will be my biggest bet on a single fighter on the card, as I'm looking to bet up to $100 on him in total. I'd bet more if he didn't do the movie gig.
Also, Thomson has had just over 1 month of solid training. He was overseas shooting some martial arts movie. I still believe in he will win though, cuz he trains year round.
Odds on Mein went to shit, should've bet earlier. Got decent sized bet on Larkin. Let's see if I can make it 5 events in a row (excluding those I have not bet) where I make money .
Yea, don't know a ton about him but he looked really sloppy on the UFC Sweden card a year ago and while he's big and strong I don't get the feeling that he's actually good at fighting.

Romero suffered an upper back injury after his fight with Cavalcante which has left him on the shelf for the past year.
“Don’t let my time away fool you, I have used it wisely, improving everything from my stand-up to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I am more prepared than I have ever been in my entire life.”
“It was clear after the Feijao fight that I needed to drop a weight class. I always walked around within five pounds of 205. When I stepped in the cage with Feijao he had 20 to 30 pounds on me and I felt the difference,” said Romero.
“We have been working on Yoel’s technical striking and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu extensively post recovery,” said Tina Vidal-Smith, Romero’s manager at ML Management.
“I’m not concerned about his wrestling,” said Romero. “I respect his abilities but there is no comparison.”
Romero now resides in Miami, FL and trains at the world renowned American Top Team at the Coconut Creek and Kendall locations. “I have sparring partners here and training at a caliber that I would have never received in Germany. I don’t think I would have been able to advance my career without it.”
------------------------
“I have been cutting down healthy for months now, and I’m very comfortable at this new weight and strong now.”
“Feijao was my first time ever fighting in an actual cage,” Romero revealed. “In Europe, all my fights were in a boxing ring. Also, I had very little BJJ and technical striking training, which put me at a disadvantage. I had never fought in as big a show before either, which just compiled all the issues. But, I’ve been working on all of that for 12 months now.”
“The injury recovery was long and slow, but everything is perfect now and I feel stronger than ever.”
“My biggest focus has been on improving my technical striking and BJJ. I’ve been working a lot one-on-one with the coaches at American Top Team Kendall and then sparring up at Coconut Creek with people like Hector Lombard.”
“I feel I have something to prove after my last fight. I want my fans to believe in me again.”
“If I were Starks, I would not try to out-wrestle me,” Romero said.
“Starks won’t face the first-time UFC jitters like I will.” “With the exception of one guy, he has not really fought anyone that I would consider a challenge, and at this point I feel like my wrestling and striking is at a higher level than his,” Romero said.
“In my last fight I came out slow,” he confessed. “I wanted to feel out the situation. I had never done that before in a fight, and it gave Feijao time to relax. I had never taken that strategy before in a fight, and I won’t make that mistake again.”

Damn Mir is ripped at 257, Cormier is a pudgy 235.
He could probably go to 205 without too much trouble if he diets right.
Poker chobo.

The major ones I noticed
Benavidez looked good. He usually looks super drained, this time he was exactly 125 and his face was only semi drained. His weight cut isn't a problem anymore it seems.
Bowling looked good during the weigh-in, same as usual just smaller cuz of the new weight class.
Nate had a little trouble on the scale. He's already going to move up to welterweight after this fight, win or lose. Thomson didn't have a full training camp, and he said it took him 4-5 weeks to get back into fighting shape, which lets me know he's good to go, Hopefully Thomson doesn't have any cardio trouble, but since it's a 3 round fight, he should be okay.
Mir looked great. His chest and stomach were solid, and he isn't carrying around that beer belly like usual.
Benson looked tired walking out to the stage. But he always handles his weigh cuts just fine.

Mir has been on TRT for awhile. He looks ripped cuz he's actually training out of a real camp in Jacksons MMA, instead of his own gym in Las Vegas where his wife and kids would always come to see him and he was surrounded by yes-men.
If Mir could only work on his speed, he'd be so much better. When I see him fight, I feel like I'm watching a 150 pound man inside of a 250 pound mans body, in that he's so slow with his punches and his high round kick is so telegraphed. It's no wonder why he excelled in BJJ. His size and natural brute strength on the ground, mixed with skill, is dangerous.
Mir looked ripped. At current price he is must bet imo.

Cormier > Mir (-380)
Thomson > Diaz (+170)
Brown > Mein (+290)
Those are my bets.
Henderson has the advantage in the main, but I feel like this will be a tough fight for him. I almost want to bet Melendez at +250... but I think line is about right.

swore id never bet against bendo again, but seems like +250 has value. taking a small stab on gilbert.
but man, i finally get bendo now and why he is so so good and why people have such a hard time exploiting the things hes weaker at. for someone who almost never finishes anyone he is super fucking dangerous everywhere. at range his leg kicks are insane. in close his elbows and clinch fighting is vicious. hes imo the best athlete in mma and his takedowns are great. his GNP is great. he has some of the best guillotines in mma. his chin and sub defense rival guys like jon fitch and he never gets tired and fights at a great pace all fight. its really incredible that he doesnt finish more guys, especially in later rounds when he is fighting at 100% vs guys who have been beaten on for a long fight.
but at the same time, his boxing is still mediocre, his defensive wrestling is much worse than his offensive wrestling, and while he seems unsubmittable, he does get into quite a few precarious positions on the ground. at some point someone will take advantage of his weaknesses, but i dont know if gil is the guy to do it. hes a blown up 145 facing one of the most physically dominating fighters in the sport. i dont think one bad fight vs josh thomson is enough to call gil overrated and still think hes every bit as good as he showed in some of his other fights. i just dont know if he can overcome what bendo has. worth a small bet though, time to go 0-6 vs bendo
