heres the thing about condit vs hendricks. sure condit has horrible takedown defense, but the fact that hendricks is a great wrestler is meaningless, especially since he rarely uses it. ANYONE can take condit down. yet he manages to win fights despite this deficiency. i think this fight is slightly favoring condit but pretty close to a flip

rofl... This was the first time I've ever heard Nick Ring speak before.

lmao at 6:25 of the video.

His fight vs. Camozzi should be good.

If a comedian was doing an over the top gay Canadian voice it would sound just like that. He sounds more Canadian than he did on TUF.

There is no way he'd strike 3 rounds vs Condit.

I mean, if he does... he's fucking retarded and deserves to lose -_-;;

This.

I feel that Condit is more of a killer (despite the Diaz-fight) but Hendricks has better tools.

re: Diaz a guy I know and did some BJJ with a few years back who's friendly with some UFC fighters and such described Diaz boxing as:

"He hits you with all these stupid punches that doesn't look hard and you think you can take it but before you know it you're rocked and there's nothing you can do about it"

think GSP might be too smart to get caught up in that game though.

To be fair in regards to Hendricks rarely using his wrestling, most of his fights in the UFC have been against pretty high level wrestlers. I mean his last 8 fights were Brenneman, Story, TJ Waldburger, Pierce, Fitch, Kos, Kampmann. That's a pretty murderous row of guys with good wrestling.

Only guys I've seen him face in the UFC who's wrestling I'm not sure about he KO'd in the 1st round in Sodallah & Waldberger.

Also not a very reliable source but Joe Rogan was talking up Hendricks BJJ game saying it's very good and he taps high level people in the gym on the reg.

Will be interesting to see his game plan and fight IQ though.

has Joe Rogan ever not praised someones BJJ ?
Every single UFC fighter is a very high level BJJ guy with some serious technique in Joe Rogans eye

If one fighter lays on his back not moving at all and another fighter simply walks around his legs and goes to sidemount
-> Jore Rogan is like : OMG have u seen this pass ? This guy has excellent passes and has trained Jiu Jitsu with very high level guys !

U see what i did there with A8 ? He 4 bets and there we go insta jam A8 : ---booooom -- . hahahaha ( Krantz)Last edit: 13/03/2013 09:51

yea its likely hendricks does use his wrestling, especially with marc laimon in his corner screaming at him to do so, but condit is like the complete opposite of anderson silva when it comes to his wrestling. anderson has GREAT takedown defense, but once hes down he stays there forever and never gets back up. whereas condit is very easy to take down but very good at scrambling and getting back to his feet.

rory, kampmann, DHK, gsp all took him down repeatedly but he would get back up a lot and fight. if you rewatch the rory fight the first 2 rounds were EXTREMELY close but they were rory's rounds. the kampmann fight also extremely close against a man who has never been outgrappled by anyone. and DHK he just popped back up and smashed against a guy who is usually a total blanket.

so he will keep getting back up or maybe sweeping and hendricks would have to be really intent on wrestling the whole fight to stay motivated to keep going for the takedowns. its def possible and its the reason i wont be betting the fight. i learned a long time ago to never bet on what you think a fighters gameplan should be, but to bet on what a fighter has done in his career. i cant rely on hendricks using a gameplan we think he should use, i cant rely on condit outstriking while being taken down 8 times and still getting the win on judges scorecards, i just have to pass on the fight.

Diaz loses via cut, otherwise known as a TKO by cut.

Diaz bleeds easily, and GSP used to have some good elbows inside the guard.

Also, look at Diaz's face at the end of the Condit fight. It was a mixture of him having weak skin and getting hit. He also lost by cut back in the day against K.J. Noons.

the flurries in the first couple rounds and the back take in round 5 were the most significant moments of the fight, but condit won 95% of the rest of the fight and exposed diaz's movement as a big problem. diaz moves forward and backward without cutting angles. he has great hands and timing but his movement is the problem.

roach sees the problems with diaz and even though hes biased for the guys he works with he is right. condit used angles to basically pick away at diaz all fight. we have seen many parts of diaz's game exposed before: his weak wrestling, his inability to deal with legkicks well (cyborg santos of all people exposed this), and now his angles?

what does GSP do well: wrestling, grappling, his angles with boxing. looking at his striking in the past ~9 fights, the only moment he struggled or faced any adversity was the condit headkick. not something he has to worry about vs diaz. all he has to do is stick and move out at angles, use his wrestling effectively and not get subbed. everyone knows diaz is fucked in this fight for sure, but i think hes in big trouble in all future fights vs great fighters. he has too many weaknesses that people can exploit and all they have to do is avoid what hes great at. dont let him get top position and dont box or brawl with him. thats it

How far do you think Condit walked backwards while fighting Diaz? 1 mile? More?

At the beginning of every UFC event they have the thing explaining what judges score fights on: Effective striking, grappling, aggression, and octagon control. You can only give Condit one of those things over Diaz (Effective striking). If MMA judges start scoring aggression and octagon control correctly there is no way Condit ever should win that fight. Saying Condit should win a fight like that would be similar to saying Guida shoulda beaten Maynard. Fighters who trot backwards the entire fight are losing the fight.

Aggression = "The practice of making assaults or attacks."

Both men were attacking each other, the difference was that one man was able to land more strikes.

Diaz talking shit and throwing his hands up isn't going to win him points on a score card as being aggressive.

As for Guida, if he actually landed multiple significant strikes then he would have won. His fight vs. Maynard was way more extreme than Condit/Diaz, as Diaz showed the wear on his face in the post fight interview that I posted already in a previous reply.

agree i thought diaz won the fight, but i can see why they gave it to condit b/c he landed a lot of clean (but weak) strikes. so, by a point system they "had" to give it to condit.

I think diaz beats the fuck out of gsp and another huge underdog cashes

i know its just semantics, but if condit had really run backwards diaz would have killed him. diaz murders people who move straight forwards and backwards. but if you cut out at angles he gets confused and doesnt ever adjust.

agression =/= octagon control

Enjoying the discussions so far and i can't wait for this event. Railing for GSP.
How do the fighters cut weight and gain it back so fast? What is their diet and exercise like pre-fight? Rory MacDonald comes to mind. Is there some sort of performance enhancing drug that does this? I know it is mostly water but there has to be more science to it.
