Just thought I'd give this show a shout-out:
Hear bread and butter are comics, but she is a huge Game of Thrones fan (she has the Lannister Lion tatooed on her arm lol). Some interesting stuff here, even if you read the books.
There is no such thing as certainty in life, only opportunity.

there's no such thing as the "fire" god. The Lord of Light that Thoros of Myr prays to is the same entity Melisandre gets her powers from (the god associated to fire, the sun [hence, light] and shadows - because, as she once put it, the brightest light casts the darkest shadow).
MAY CONTAIN BOOK SPOILERS FROM HERE ON OUT!
However - and this is just pure speculation here - I think you're somewhat right about that there are two major gods - the Lord of Light being the good (but ambigious, as is everything with G. R. R. Martin) guy, and the Other, "Whose name we shouldn't speak" (Voldemort, anyone? ) being the bad guy, responsible for the Others and their zombie stuff.
There are a few minor "real magic" stuff going on as well in the ASOIAF world (the Children of the Forest and their weirwoods, associated with "the old gods", the warlocks of the east come to mind) but as it stands now, only these two gods seem to really exist, and other religions seem to be a load of bull. I don't know, it pretty much seems like a funny jest on mainstream religion to me (as in the most prevalent faith of the seven gods seem to be totally empty, while this obscure thing about a lord of light, fire and shadow being "true", and holding real power).
