Sick challenge... Cao has been/is playing the big games in Macao but 1M challenge seems real big!
Also Antonius just took Cao for 200k today... |

how does a challenge like this work, what does it mean when they say 400 holdem for e.g? first to be up 400k?
and how do you win, what if one wins holdem other wins plo? |

Is he really? Patrik is pretty good at PLO and I think might be stronger at NL (which is obv why he wanted to weight it on NL) |

for that much money i'd be really paranoid that the other guy is getting sweats in their non-specialist games. and for example someone in this thread says rui is buddies with the best triple draw players in the world who would assuredly enjoy 1.5/3k action from antonius. |

its hard to call people favorites and underdogs considering the "structure". 10 buyins here, 100 bets there. these are relatively small swings with 2 high variance players. id imagine patrik has the edge in NL, but rui has the edge in PLO and a big edge in 2-7. patrik seems bad at 2-7 and rui would be a favorite there even without help from his friends. the possibility of his friends helping only adds to his edge |

They often said in the past that they would sweat each other to learn from the others i.e Rui would watch them playing 2-7 and the Sebs would watch him play PLO.
That's how Rui got good at 2-7 and the Sebs improved their PLO game. But from what we know from Rui, he is not the type of guy that would take an unfair advantage (by being sweat by the Sebs) because he has this "gambling gene" and thrives on challenges/big games.
Also, the 2 Sebs have a rule of never playing at the same table because they don't want to play each other/gain unfair advantage (even though not many 2-7 tables ever run at the stakes they play). So I doubt they would help Rui "cheating" Patryk here. |

Apparently this was not part of the challenge.
The "real" challenge started just now. They are playing 2 tables of 200/400 NLHE
Rui Cao: so
FinddaGrind: we will play nl holdem 300 600 blinds untill one of us is up more than 350k and we will play minimum 100 bb deep right?
Rui Cao: 200 400
FinddaGrind: same for PLO?
Rui Cao: 200 400 no?
Rui Cao: I said no for 300 600 not enough BIs
Rui Cao: 200 400 is better and it wont last too long if we 2 tables
FinddaGrind: we can start with 200 400 but if it looks like it will go too slow then we need to kick it up to 300 600
FinddaGrind: i will have one week to finnish this challenge
Rui Cao: ill be here to play everyday
Rui Cao: if we put enough hours its gonna be enough time
FinddaGrind: i just dont wanna play one day for 3-4 days possibly since the 8 game is running every day
Rui Cao: I don't want it to be flipping
Rui Cao: 300 600 with 350K us is just almost nothing
Rui Cao: even 200 400 is going to be fast
Rui Cao: i mean 8.5 BIs
Rui Cao: you swing that easily in a couple thousand hands
FinddaGrind: ok we will start with 200 400 i hope that will go fast
Rui Cao: ok
Rui Cao: if it last too long
Rui Cao: we will change
FinddaGrind: but what will we do if we are still playin the first game after 3 days?????
Rui Cao: kick it up
FinddaGrind: ok deal
Rui Cao: plo and deuce
Rui Cao: is going to be much faster
FinddaGrind: 2-7 we will play one table 1500 - 3k limit
Rui Cao: oh and if I get disconnected or you do
Rui Cao: lets wait a bit
FinddaGrind: untill someone is up more than 300k
Rui Cao: my connection here is bad
Rui Cao: yes and 300K bonus if no scoop
Rui Cao: for the winner
Rui Cao: ok
FinddaGrind: yes gentlemen rules if someone gets disconnected you need to wait as long as you can to bet ok?
Rui Cao: 2 tables NL and PLO 1 table of deuce
Rui Cao: ok
FinddaGrind: also i want to confirm the added money
Rui Cao: yes
FinddaGrind: if you scoop you will naturally win 1m
Rui Cao: 300K bonus to the winner if no scoop
FinddaGrind: yes if you win with 2-1 result then loser will transfer 300k for the winner
Rui Cao: yes
FinddaGrind: ok i will see you in nl table
FinddaGrind: i will need max 5min |

If Cao loses NL, he will have lost 1M total to Antonius, and if he wins it, he will have to give 300k to Antonius for bonus.
So for Antonius it's either a 1M win or 950k win... |

650k, he'd be -300 from the NL. |

Hmm no. Like Kingpowa said: if Cao wins NLHE part, total it would be: +650k for Antonius.
But they agreed that if someones doesn't scoop (wins all 3 part of the challenge), the loser still has to ship back 300k$ to the overall winner.
So all in all Cao lost at least 950k even if the challenge is not finished yet. At least I understood it like Kingpowa from the convo they had when they agreed on the terms of the challenge. |

This is where you go wrong. He would be +650k before playing NLH (as is the current situation). Then lose 300k at NLH and be at +350k, then receive a transfer for 300k and be back to 650. |

I've got a sneaking suspicion that just possibly cao and antonius made the same mistake when arranging this. Surely not?! |

well there are 2 possibilities, so you are both right.
1) antonius up the 650k, and they decide not to play the NL (and there is no 300k forfeiture) and antonius collects the 300k bet, and wins 950k
2) antonius is up the 650k, decide not to play NL (and antonius agrees to forfeit or lose 300k) to still finish up as the winner, and collects the bet, bringing him to 650k.
all in all, since antonius is winning, if / when they decide to avoid finishing the NLHE section of their challenge, i cannot see antonius agreeing to give up 300k, especially since he would likely think he would win that amount.
i think hes probably going to win $1 million, and the reason that the 300k bet was added on was so that if the winner didnt scoop, it would still be a ~1million swing to the winner of the challenge (in this case, at least) |
