I watched part of their match today. Isildur was owning galfond early on. He was generally a big favorite come the flop in 3bet pots vs galfonds. One pot, isi 3bet and they went to the flop which was 892. isi had 10jQk double suited vs galfonds 9 10 2 5 all spades lol. Galfold called a pot sized bet on the flop, turn and the river with the final hands being Khigh vs 9's and 8's.

Soon sfter that isi lost a big pot in a run it twice scenario vs open ended no pair . Guess it was all down hill from there.

isi is down $500k after the last 48hours,

Now, somebody had to profit from isi gains the last weeks and it's pretty standard to believe that man is Galfond, the biggest bumhunter in the world ^^

pretty sure when isi is crushing, the only way he can go to sleep is after losing 7 figures.

Wonder if team cardrunners will take another shot at him. Brian Townsend still got his notes ?

Although Isildur1 "crushed" Sauce and Kanu for respectively $2mil and $700k in the last 7 days, with his losses to SallyWoo and Galfond in the last 2 days (and also to PostFlopAction), Isil is down $1mil from his peak.

Still a $2mil winner over the last 7 days though :D

Well, as I understands it he has some table selection but I think I might be almost as much of a bumhunter as he is, and I've spent the last month sitting with every reg on Prima up to 5/10 PLO starting from a 1.2k deposit running it up to being reasonably rolled to actually sit like that.

At that time, it's true if was unfair as they were teaming up and analysing his hands etc... but now Isildur1 is a way better PLO player and Hasting was running like the sun as well during that epic session where Isildur1 dropped $4mil to him.

Afaik, Sauce/Kanu do the same as they seemed to say that they "studied" Isil's game (at least for NLHE) and thought they had a decent edge on him.

Galfond won 1,5M last 48h. I guess most of it comes from Isildur. So it's closer to a 1,5M loss than 500k.
Btw, Guss Hansen rollercoasting too, almost made 1M last 48h.

sorry for shitty english.

Galfond won quite a lot vs Patpatpanda at O8 I think. Something like 300k$ and won vs other opponents too.
I think out of his 1.5mil winnings in last 48h, "only" 1mil is from Isildur1. Also Isildur1 took about 400k from Galfond ealier last week. So good guess would be that Galfond is up 500k or so vs Isildur1 this month.

Isildur1 was up 1mil from Sauce and 770k from Kanu in the last 48h but dropped 500k and an extra couple of hundred K's to various other players at limit games too.

Isildur was playing truly horrendously there towards the end. He admits to misreading his hand at least twice, one of which I saw was checking back the nuts on the river in a 40k pot. Also, as if playing probably the #1 player in the world at PLO is not enough, for a while he was playing gaflond at 3 tables while still playing another of 2k/4k O8 vs someone else.

so entertaining though...

the ^^ was supposed to imply that Galfond table selects and picks his timing much more thoughtfully then almost any other player. He is not bumhunting per say as there are no fish who would play him at 300/600 plo, however, you will rarely if ever see Galfond grinding all day/night and waiting for action.

Isi has been pumping out action for nearly 2 weeks straight now, going on monster benders 9-17hours over and over again. Now that isi has big bankroll again, on monster benders, you will see galfond online tons.

If isil losses all his 100/200+ money, I guarantee Galfond will go on another one of his hiatus'

I realize he it is harder for USA peeps to grind, visa's, all that shit, but galfond has been doing this the last few years.

And why not? he avoids variance like the plague, and has enough control to not put himself high variance spots. His is most likely the most skilled, best game selector, life balanced poker player

since black friday....

stars: MrSweets28 3127 335499 $1,645,831
full tilt: OMGClayAiken 54 7134 $1,369,302

since black friday hes played 342k hands on stars/ftp. in 18 months (he didnt relocate right away). he also lives in the usa. so while hes in canada hes probably playing around 30k hands/month which is a ton for a high stakes guy who probably never plays more than 6 tables. doesnt seem like some guy taking hiatuses and only playing in the best games. he was grinding 25/50+ plo on stars playing in any lineup, verse sauce HU, against some of the best 2-7 players in the world etc.

and im sure hes probably played some 10/20 and things that werent tracked. its possible hes played over 400k hands in that time

yes I remember his interviews about his degen ways when noosebleed was new, stuff like taking shots at ivey that would cripple his bankroll, but I then thought since he has been a huge bumhunter, game selector. Proven entirely wrong this last year, since perhaps the only delays are when he is out of Canada/europe, but while in canada/europe he grinds monster session.

I am surprised I have observed so few of his recent 1 year hands, since there are 330k of them. I have no idea where I have been to miss all them

after a long break because of BF he started out at 25/50 PLO grinding like 12+ tables a ton when he first came to canada, also a ton of 50/100 6max action a while on PS. So not that surprising he got a lot of hands in at "kiddystakes" for him.

Galfond surely timed this perfectly. He usually appears when isildur is either on degentilt mode or is about to get there.

BadGoNe   France. Jan 15 2013 04:27. Posts 1089

Galfond is one of the best player out there. He might usually "appear" only after Isildur1 has had a heater or long sessions but you can't really blame him since Galfond admits himself that he has lots of respect for Isildur1 game and approach to the game. He probably knows that when on heater/running good, Isildur1 is most probabley the toughest opponent to play since his confidence is sky high and that he has lots of money to gamble with.

Galfond plays for a living so I doubt he is willing to risk/gambool millions vs an isildur1 on a rush. He knows that even when "timing" his encounter with Isildur1 might give him an edge, Isildur1 always fall for it because Isildur1 loves action and competing vs the best at poker. So why should Galfond stop?

Put yourselves in Galfond's shoes and imagine what you would do Most of us hate the fact that Isildur1 gets crushed by Galfond all the time because he is playing him only after long sessions or heater but Isildur1 can decline action in these circumstances. Problem is that he never declines :D

BadGoNe   France. Jan 15 2013 04:35. Posts 1089

That said, I hope Isildur1 keeps his 500k stop loss rule he has been having. He seemed to cashout all winnings after his sessions and kept only 500k to play with.
We need to see him win some vs Galfond since he is the last one that has the BR to play him at the higher stakes

Sauce can't afford to play the stakes Isildur1 sits at (down $2mil to Isildur1 this month) and I doubt Kanu is going to play Isildur1 again soon after his 700k loss to him. They'll try to rebuild before playing him again. Variance is too high when playing the swede lol

Where do you get your info that sauce "can't afford to play these stakes"

Sauce/Galfond have made over $10million AND most likely sell action in some way or another when they are in the super deep 120k games. Isi even sells chunks of action, he isn't 100% of himself 100% of the time.

Variance wise, it's hard to say who can actually afford these stakes.

Correct, but taking calculated bankroll shots and selling action has an EV to it that I do not know for sauce, however, I know sauce knows for himself. He wouldn't waste his time and neither would Galfond

Lol @ the people who call Galfond a bumhunter. He has a small list of people he won't/rarely play, and most of them are his friends.

Anyways, game selection is an important skill, even for the best players in the world.

They were buying in for 120k on each of their 3 tables.
1.2mil is 10 buy-ins and Sauce was down 2mil mostly to isildur1.

Even with 10mil winning lifetime and as you mentioned correctly they don't even have 100% of themselves when playing these stakes so out of the 10mil I doubt 100% was their action. So they don't have 10mil BR because they won 10mil.

Also I agree they can take shot and selling action and still have +EV but when you are down 2mil in 3 days, I think you stop your shot/your backers bail out

not sure who exactly would want to back any of these guys when playing against each other. if one has an edge over another, it's going to be something that only that person can understand. if other ppl understood it, they'd be exploiting it themselves. of the people who have the money to put up for splitting the action, who would even want to? i know i wouldn't.

So you are implying that every person that is backing someone, would it be tournaments or cash game, is able to beat the same game his horses are playing? If so why are there so many games being played with action shared?

Also we all know that Isildur1 has tendancies to tilt and to play marathon sessions where he isn't playing his A game and being over-aggressive in various spots.
But knowing that doesn't make me able to exploit it (I wish it was though lol)

We all know phil galfond is a bumhunter. ain't no same in that.

he himself has also said that the opportunity cost of grinding 5/10 and potentially going into a huge downswing isn't worth jeopardizing his ability to play fish at nosebleeds.

no one's denying the guy's talent and skill, but we all know he only plays in games he knows he has an edge in. it can be called disciplined, good bankroll management, or bumhunting.
